Hello PS, please can you help me decide on this stone? It’s a 1.70ct K SI2 and I have it on hold with Brilliance for 24 hours.

It’s wonky, heavily included, displays windowing, HRD cert… but I can’t take my mind off it! Feels like an antique cut stone and I actually quite like the inclusions (it’s graded SI2 but should be I1…or I3, hah). I have zero sensitivity to colour so the K (or L, or MNOP) doesn’t matter to me.

Just wondering if anyone can shed some light on whether it will be similar to a rose cut in terms of performance? How will the window look once it’s set?

And… is it possible to find something similar/better for around $2,000, which is the price of this stone? :geek2: I’m specifically looking for an antique cut pear in the 1.5ct+ range.

Thank you in advance!

I think you are spot on in saying it will have similar flavor to rose cut. But in areas - not as a whole.

My guess-
I think it’d be lovely in a high interior polished collet setting - closed back.

Don’t think Id enjoy it *as much* if in a modern setting /open basket especially set with culet close to skin.

Edited to add-
I think ultimately what vibe it gives off of its window absolutely depends on the end style of the setting itself.

Yes I was exactly thinking of a collet setting! Just to check, is a closed back the same as a foil setting or a cup?

Not sure.
Also not sure if terminology is straight across the board to different benches?

My collet is fully enclosed (from OMJ/Sako) and he said it was watertight.

I’m not sure that will be true with every collet - and really don’t think so with something if called foil backed.

If I bought this stone I would definitely do a foil back, cup, or closed setting (whatever we're calling it :mrgreen2: ).

Is it easy for you to return? If so, could order and play around with different foils under it to see how it looks/reacts.
Could go either way for me. If its not easy for you to return, then I* would not take a chance on it. Plus, cost comes
into play which we can no longer see. My 2 cents! Take it for what it's worth!

This is my dream stone! I'd love to buy it if you don't.

I once saw (online) a shallow cut OEC and I've been on the hunt for one since. The basket looked open at the bottom.

Haha thanks @tyty333 !

The only thing stopping me buying it is that I’m not based in the US so shipping and returns are a pain (not to mention all the import/export taxes and duties). Otherwise I would’ve snapped it up and played around with different foil backs as you mentioned!

Thanks @chere , I still have it on hold but will let you know if I don’t proceed :)

Not yet but would love to know your thoughts on it @lulu_ma !

@chere I decided not to proceed with this diamond (due to lack of refund options from abroad) and have just let Brilliance know.

They say will cancel the hold and refund me within 24h so check out the link when you get a sec, and please show us (if you acquire the stone) what you do with it! =)2

Thanks! I will contact them

I placed the order last night and got a confirmation at my order is being processed. It will ship in 3 weeks.

Ooh can't wait to see the reveal!

She's here! Thank you for sharing the find @Pomelo

The SI2 grading is very generous but my eye sight isn't what I used to be. It looks like the first photo without my loupe.

I'm not sure if I'll set her as a solitaire or as a 3 stone with small round OECs that I've collected for a DBTY necklace. Or do I collect more old cuts for my necklace. I've got lots of time to think about it while I join the others on Ban Island for a self-imposed exile.

Ooh she looks lovely! I think the inclusions aren’t as noticeable in your pics and add to the old world charm :kiss2:

With how big those facets are, have you considered rose cut side stones? Single cuts would be glorious as well, but I doubt they are cut large enough.

I think it looks great! There are definitely more like it on brilliance if anyone wants one :)

Can you show us some pics with different color foil under it? Please, please =)2

There are different candies that have yellow gold foil...dont know where to find rose gold foil though.
