Hello Color Gem Forum,

I am in search of a nice ruby under $5,000.00:

I like emerald cuts, rounds, and cushions.
Size .80 and up
Untreated preferred, but heated ok.
Medium red, pigeon blood red, red pink, and red purple are the colors I like

Any help one willing to help me on my search?

Much appreciated.

DiaLuv (aka Mary)

Im sure you have come to the right place Mary
best of luck and i look forward to seeing what you eventually find

Windowed, BUT, unheated, Burmese, under-budget, color has potential, lab report is on the way, and 0.88ct. Absolutely needs more pics/a video and info on inclusions. Just an interesting find from a seller I don't think anyone has used here.

Jogani has some interesting unheated Burmese rubies as well - but like the above, may be imperfect with clarity and cut. I think a few on the diamond forum have used this seller.
Their instagram feed, which has more than fine rubies:
You can contact them by their site: https://jogani.com/
Here are some examples of nice ones they've sold:

If you are ok with Mozambique or other origins you can find something more easily, find what you want for less $, or get a larger stone than your minimum; you didn't specify origin preference. Keep in mind, SSEF announced that some rubies especially from Mozambique have been irradiated recently to temporarily improve color, so be aware if its a newer stone. Color stability tests are worth the hassle.

Thank you demantoidz.

Has anyone bought from GEMSNY.COM?

If you look at the certificates for the rubies, the few I “clicked on” say “heated with moderate residues” - that’s flux filling = bad, another says “evidence of clarity enhancement” = bad. These are not rubies to buy.
So you need to check what the report says because there are so many treated rubies out there being sold for much much much more than they are worth.
This is why $5,000 for an unheated or Heat only ruby, with reputable report confirming this, is hard to find.
Avoid any rubies without reports, you could be buying anything. You don’t want to pay $5,000 for a ruby actually worth $50. That’s the risk without reputable lab reports.

Thank you Bron357. I’ve just started looking and already I’m getting overwhelmed.

The rare gemstone company has a few:

So does Yvonne Raley

It's good that you have such wide ranging tastes... it should be much easier for you to find something in your budget. Good luck!

This vendor often has 20-25% off sales.
GIA unheated, origin not specified.

Gary from Finewater Gems has a 1.2ct unheated ruby with AGL report but its pear shaped, not sure if you're into that. He is a highly reputable vendor.

Thank you Cocobianco. The pear from Finewater is very nice.

Demantoidz, I saw the cushion earlier today. It is in the running. Thank you for you assistance. Much appreciate.

Any thoughts on the 5 stones below. I like them all.

Mary

Unfortunately I can't access the gemsny site for some reason.
The other two have obvious differences in cost/size/shape etc, what is less obvious is color differences which I can't discern since they are photographed in totally different lighting environments.

Thank you Cocobianco. The pear from Finewater is very nice.

I am afraid it will look a lot less saturated in person than in the glamour shot.

Also, I don't recommend this company in general, but given the GIA report and the on hand videos I wanted to show it as an option. Small, pricey, but IMHO gorgeous.

Thank you everyone for helping me. I have found the ruby I would like to purchase after vendor answers a couple of question.

Mary

Any thoughts on this heated ruby?

Mary

Its a lower price than the others we've seen so far, and still appears to be an appealing color, so that's a plus.
I am not sure how much residue is in a GIA minor residue ruby, and oddly I couldn't find this info. GRS's H(a) insignificant definition (affects under 0.001ct of weight) which I mentioned in your other thread might be different than GIA's minor definition. I guess I would contact GIA and ask them.
You can find a 1ct untreated Mozambique ruby for a similar price, but maybe not from one of the PS vetted western sellers. E.g.

I agree... nice, vivid color. A bit of a window and the clarity enhancement is something to consider. But if you don't mind a ruby with minor filling, then it may be worth pondering. Demantoidz gave you a great alternative though!

I finally found a ruby. I should have it next Friday.

Thank you everyone for all the help and advice.

Please share pix when the stone arrives, Mary! Congrats again!!

Will do.

Beautiful! Congrats and enjoy, @DiaLuv!! Pear shapes are vastly underrated, IMO. Nice clarity too. If you're able, please try to take a photo in natural light, as this one appears to be yellow-tinged. So difficult to capture the true essence of these beauties, I know!
