I just ordered this 3.51 ct K VVS2 EC from JA. I’ve never had a diamond below a G and to jump all the way to a K has me feeling very uneasy. Depth and table all checked out. Please take a look and let me know your honest thought. Thank you.

So I am not an emerald cut expert so cannot evaluate this specific stone. But here is what I do know speaking in generalities only.

They show color more so than rounds so if you are at all color sensitive a K might be too tinted for you. The only way to know for sure is to see it in person and take it into all the environments in which you will be wearing it. It is truly a personal decision and there is no right or wrong.

Having said that there are some beautiful K stones.
It just depends on your personal preferences.

Thank you so much Missy. I appreciate your input.

Sorry to bother you, I really would appreciate your thoughts on this diamond.

post the gia report, either the report itself or the report number please.

Color is very personal. no one can tell you which colors or tints you like, just tolerate, or hate.
They can tell you how they feel about it but in no way can tell you what you like.

It is a GIA K, so that makes a diffference, also the florescence helps. Not an EC, but I've attached my GIA K stone. It's 2.1 with strong blue florescence.

I think being part of the PS community makes us more color/clarity sensitive than most of the public and your stone will be beautiful!

This is so beautiful! Thank you for sharing it. It certainly helps to see a photo of a GIA K.

data is inconclusive on the cut it could go either way depending on how it flashes.
Looking at it unmounted first to check it and the color if possible is a good idea.

porchelady, I have a K EC, much smaller than yours at 1.07, with faint fluor on the GIA report. I think it's more medium myself, it's icy white outside and in most lighting conditions. You have to get it inside under just the right light to see the tint. I like it, sort of having 2 diamonds in one.

Oh thank you! Do you mind changing what metal you set it in?

Yellow gold, yellow head as well. Used ring, has a tiny RB and baguette on each side which might buffer some of the yellow gold. It may have appeared more white before I had it set but I love the stone and the ring so it doesn't bother me. The K is a charming quirk that let me buy more diamond for the money.
Get the nicest cut you can find and carry it into every lighting condition you can. Give yourself several days to change your mind back and forth.

It's a beautifully cut EC! I think you'll just have to have it in hand and see for yourself. Step cuts do show colour more and it's not a small stone, but you may just fall in love regardless. If it's cut well, you may well not notice any warmth.

Thank you! That makes me feel better about it. I was hoping to get opinions on the quality of the diamond. It cost $31,000. And I keep wondering if I can get a similar sized diamond, but in I, J at the same price.

I think if you were willing to drop half a carat and consider VS1, you probably could, but step cuts... When you find one that is cut well with such beautiful clarity, and is the perfect ratio for you, it's hard to pass up. I don't envy your situation. I think a K will face up white enough but if colour sensitive, I don't think you'll be able to unsee the warmth.

You are absolutely right! I have tried to drop a half carat and I’m still not finding anything comparable in clarity, depth, table, cut and under 40k

I think emeralds (step cuts in general) are soooo hard. If you find one that speaks to you, I would go for it. And JAs return policies are easy and no risk

Their return policy is why I chose them. Hoping it all works out

It will show warmth but that diamond is so pretty, you might just want to embrace it. I’m not a fan of warm diamonds but I found a super skinny K colored marquise with VVS1 clarity and something about the diamond just spoke to me. I set it in a rose gold bezel and love it. It looks warm-white unless placed directly next to one of my high color diamonds. Moral of the story is try it, you might like it. And I have returned with JA and it was indeed easy.

Thanks for the perspective. Yellow or rose gold might be the way to go on this one.
