Hi,

I have been looking everywhere for a loose diamond. I''m not having much luck figuring out what to pay for a diamond. I need help from some experts.

What should I expect to pay for a loose diamond with the following c''s:
1carat
Round cut
SI(1)
H
Very good cut
must be GIA certified

Does anyone know any trust worthy places on the net to buy loose diamonds?

Thanks for your help!!

hi tvoll!

never fear, you can learn everything you need to know (and then some) here. there are PLENTY of good places to get a diamond online--if you go to "resources" above and then "vendors", you'll find a list of extremely trustworthy internet vendors. you can also do a search for diamonds meeting your specifications on the home page for this site--that will give you some idea of what you can expect to pay for the kind of stone you're looking for.

you should also read thru the tutorial here (under "knowledge" above) and also perhaps at goodoldgold.com to get a better idea of what to look for in a stone and to learn more about the cut parameters for round brilliants.

finally, you'll get more responses if you post this question on the RockyTalky board.

tvoll,
There is yet more information needed as you will find on this site in order to decide on price. The cutting of a diamond will add 20% of deduct 20% from the price. Well cut as you will find is still too generic. To simplify, you can find the color and clarity of what you want from $4000 to $7000 depending on many things. Neither the net or the locals have all the stones and all the answers. Pros and cons of each way to shop. If you live in a metro area, you can see hundreds of stones with your eyes to decide what looks good to you or you can scan thousands of stones on the net to narrow down what you may want to have shipped to you. Since there is no shortage of 1 ct stones (there is a shortage of 1.33 stones), you will most likely do better with a stone that someone owns rather than just finding it for you. Everyone wants to move inventory that they have already paid for. If someone uses stones off a list, they may use only a small markup but are limited to what the stone costs them. Sometimes when you own a stone, you will sell it at cost just to get your cash back for payroll or taxes or to make a customer shop with you again. Some jewelers are way too greedy and you will end up at Costco or the internet because of their desire to stay at a higher margin. Best if you can see two stones that are $1000 different to see if you can see $1000 difference in beauty. Once you find the quality that you like, shop for the best price.
