Hi all, I know a little about diamonds but I'm not anywhere as expert as you all.

Budget of about $70k

I'm looking for a stone
-E, F, G if its an oval
-H or I if its a round, preferably with flouresence

-as low as clarity as possible

I've found these....any thoughts?

ROUNDS

OVALS

THANK YOU

You have a very healthy budget and my advice would be to consider minimum VS2 to VS1 clarity at the carat size you are looking at. The bigger the diamond the easier you can see inclusions. Yes there are eye clean SI1 out there but the pool is limited at bigger carat weights.

If im spending that kind of money i dont want to see inclusions and would want the best cut quality.

I have no knowledge with oval diamonds so someone else can chime in and comment about that i'm specifically talking about round.

If best performance is important to you i would look at Whiteflash which is a superideal vendor, they have one of the best upgrade policies.

This is right on budget but you have to sacrifice on carat weight.

So not at all an oval expert but looking at both of those, they look mushy outside the central facets and by mushy I mean the faceting is indistinct. That may be twinkly but it can also just be poor light return and concentrate the body colour2E9C7318-8426-4247-AEA2-6267010535AB.jpeg

Forgive me. This is the lazy way out. I would call WF and see what they might have coming down the pipe and wait for something larger in G-H, SI1 ish. Or the suggestion from @jp201845 . For that much money, I'm going superideal.

Whiteflash doesn’t seem to have much options, but as mentioned you can ask.

Here’s one that fits what you’re looking for from victor canera.

I love this one.

I agree with the others that for that much money, I'd want the best of the best. Whiteflash will also custom-cut a diamond for you if they don't have one in stock.

ok thank you! i did NOT know that WF did that. i might have to go that route!

please don't kill me with this question, i do get that the rings that show up on those idealscopes as all red are more sparkly, but are they THAT much more sparkly?

like is it "worth" the extra thousands to get that super ideal (again a subjective question), but wondering what you all think for those of us who like the G and H color range and also like a rock?

Last, if I get my own diamond cut, will Leon Mege accept that? I thought he likes his customers to buy from him?

From what I know, LM does not like to set outside stones. If you want him to do the setting, I'd start by reaching out to him and asking for recommendations

For me, the peace of mind knowing that I was getting the absolute best for my money was worth the premium. I went with a custom marquise from Distinctive Gem because I didn't want to worry that I didn't pick the best cut stone and I don't have the patience to sort through dozens of stones for months to look for the best. However, fancy cuts are a little trickier to get right. I wouldn't worry as much about a mrb if all the numbers look good.

HI:

cheers--Sharon

Thank you! I apologize Itooka break from researching.. I'm looking for G or whiter.... what do you think of these?

That 4.01 G/VS2 is a killer in my book! Do you see how when it turns slightly from straight-on center it has a nice wide range of
distinct well-defined facets going through the center and down towards the pointed ends. This is what you want to see in a nice
oval.

The 3.37 is sort of in between the 4.01 and the 3.3/3.6 pair. It does seem to have a larger table though.

The 3.3 and the 3.6 are not as nice IMO.

Here is the 3.3 stone. You see nice facets flashing on/off (returning light well) in the green outlined areas. The red areas are showing
somewhat "mushy" facets. When the stone turns/rotates you want to see nice facets flashing on/off in these red areas. You're not
seeing that as much with the 3.3 or the 3.6.

This isn't the 4.01 but this is what you want to see as the stone turns in those red areas...distinct well-defined facets not mushy gray facets.

@tyty333 thank you so much that is VERY informative. :oops2::mrgreen2:

With your budget I’d want colorless. I wouldn’t want to compromise on that. I wouldn’t want to see tint at any angle if spending that much.

Good point thank you!
