I''m hoping to get some help here: I''m looking to buy a new laptop, and so far, Apple''s iBook G4 12.1 inch is the forerunner. My bf suggests that I get a Dell computer, but the Dell with the same specs as the iBook comes out to be about the same price, and I really like the aesthetics of the iBook.

My concern here is that there are a number of articles out there based on rumors that Apple will be unveiling a new iBook that features an Intel processor rather than the G4. Is there really that much of a difference between an Intel processor vs. the G4? I''ll be using the laptop mainly for MS Office and Adobe Acrobat. I don''t play games or watch DVDs on my computer.

Any advice/opinions appreciated.

Cinderella,

I''m no laptop expert but I try to learn from my brother who''s a complete geek when it comes to things like this. While Dell has always been the trusty name to go to when it comes to desktops/laptops, Apple has been generating good reviews from users lately... the iBook platform is not only mac based but can also be windows based, it may be more user friendly than in the past (I''m not sure if they''ve made the change yet or if its going to be in the future but remember reading that from a recent article)...

In any case, I think that if you use the laptop mainly for Microsoft applications and Adobe, it probably wouldnt matter so much about the processor. I believe the processor really comes into play when you use it for interactive uses like games! I say that if you like the aesethics of the Apple, go for it. Does that help?

Thanks freckles!

Here''s an example of how impatient I am: I bought the iBook this afternoon after doing more research online and playing with the computer at the Apple store. So far, I love it! It''s very user friendly and I''m having a blast trying to figure things out.

Thanks again for the advice!

Gosh Cinderella, you didn''t give me time to string a sentence....
Congratulations on your new purchase. I for one would be interested to hear what you think of your new toy over the next few weeks.

MiniMouse, I absolutely love my new computer. I''m going to be using it for everything, and it''s small and light enough to be portable. I grew up only knowing how to use PCs and windows; this is the first time ever that I''ve used a Mac computer, and it''s amazingly easy to use. Much simpler than Windows, in my humble opinion. I''ve never set up any computers by myself before, but this was so easy.

I love it so far. They make MS Office for Mac computers, so I had to purchase that software, but I don''t need anything else other than that. So I suppose I''m a Mac convert now.

Wow, you''re toooo funny! I can relate, when I wanted my ipod, I went out the next morning to purchase it.. when you want it you have to have it right?

I''m glad you''re loving your new laptop!
