I'm working with Yvonne (CRD) on a new ring and need your help. The design is one she is working on for her shop and it works perfectly except I don't like rings that sit flat on my finger and prefer more of a slightly raised gallery.

Here is the face up design

When she asked her cad folks to add a small basket, they came back with this

To me, it looks too much like the head has been propped up on stilts - not a basket. I think it needs something that flows a bit better design wise. What do you think?

For example, the ring I am wearing right now:

I know it will be more of a challenge creating a basket for this new ring as it is "square" with sharper edges. Can anyone help me design a simple low profile basket to give the ring a little lift? I'm scratching my head on what can work with this design and really open to ideas. Not looking for anything fancy and don't want anything too high - just not crazy about rings that sit flat on my finger. All thoughts are appreciated as you've helped me before as I don't have a design bone in my body and have difficulty visualizing what will work.

Thanks in advance!

P.S. The ring will have a star sapphire center with moonstones/pariaba cabs.

I'm all about low profile rings (because I'm terrified of banging them :???:), so I'm not going to be much help, unfortunately. I just wanted to say I LOVE your stones (and CRD). Yvonne is a seasoned enough designer to be able to accommodate the tweaks you want to make. I suggest just fully explaining to her what you've mentioned in your post here.

How about this?

Watching your thread with interest
I think a nice gallary is very important as that's what you look down your hand at

I would show them the picture you showed here of your ring gallery and a side photo of it too
And ask them to riff off of that. Instead of the petal/teardrop shapes as in your current ring - they can be more rhombus shaped?
Do you want the halo to tilt a bit down, as well?

This ring will be gorgeous! But all of your creations are

Thank you all for your help and nice words. The star sapphire isn't eye clean but I loved the color/sharp star and idea of matching it up with Paraibas.

Agree @Autumn in New England - I LOVE Yvonne's designs (and eye for color) but it is not uncommon for me to ask her if we can make it "bigger" or "higher" :halo:. As evidenced by all my rings on the CRD thread, it ends up being a great collaboration.

I love the DK design posted by @Neptune but I think there are too many turns in my ring to do anything too fancy. We tried something along the lines posted by @JewelledEscalators ..better but I felt it still looked purely utilitarian (I agree @Daisys and Diamonds it's part of the ring I see when wearing)

But I think we've found the solution taken from a previous design that Yvonne and I collaborated on. Tiered layers along the lines @Rfisher 's suggestion to tilt the petals a bit but keeping with the original design which I didn't want to tamper with...and a base with cutouts.

It's exciting to have another project ready to go! I will definitely post when done.

The CAD looks perfect now, OP! Just what you were hoping for, yes?! Beautimous... I'm really excited to see the finished piece now (NOW... lol)!!

That’s stunning! It’s a thousand times better than what I expected based on the CAD (I have a hard time visualizing with cads). There’s so much dimension and I love how the colors play together. Just wow… what a beautiful ring!

Did you get to name the setting?

Thank you @Autumn in New England and @elle_71125 (and others). Unfortunately, I won't get it for a couple of weeks as I'm headed to my mom's.

I did have her redo the cad to make the layers more pronounced and change the gallery to cutouts as I thought the sticks would look awkward with the layers.

I love collaborating with Yvonne. Sometimes it start with something she has in mind (as was the case this time) or vice versa. Her style tends to be more dainty and lower sitting whereas my big fingers need more. I think our differences end up with a better creative. And while many of our collaborations have made it to her shop with names - the naming is best left to others.
