Hello,

I would really appreciate the help in helping me decide on which diamond to select. To give a short background, I am totally new to this and just trying to get the best value diamond in the $10K range.
Can you give me your thoughts on the diamonds below? I wanted a hearts and arrow but not sure if the diamonds below fit that criteria.

1) 1.30ct G VVS2 triple excellent cut, no fluorescence, but HCA came above 5 which I read in the forums are not a good result.

2) 1.21ct VS1, triple excellent cut, no fluorescence. ( is this a true hearts and arrows?)

what are your thoughts?

Is this a round or oval?

This is a round diamond.

Diamond 2 is a much better cut. Probably not a “true” hearts and arrows, but exponentially better than Diamond 1.

@Dancing Fire @Kaycee2018 wanted to get your thoughts on why it’s not a true hearts and arrows. The store told me that it’s a true hearts and arrow as the GCAL report shows that it’s excellent and the hearts and arrow are clearly visible. What should I look out for? Also what do you think a fair price for a diamond like this would be.

really appreciate your help!

I think the hearts and arrows pictures you posted are just an example but not the actual image of the second diamond.

#1) It's not true hearts and arrows because both the hearts and arrows are "off" in terms of precision. It is cut in an H&A "style", but poorly. I would definitely not buy this stone. The store is wrong (or being dishonest) about the quality of this cut.

You can do MUCH better.

#2) It's MUCH better than the first option. Like 100000000x better. But the images are very weird and stretched out so it's hard to tell much of anything. Do you have the video link? It would be helpful to see how it performs in a video.

@Dancing Fire there are 2 different stones and the 2nd one has bizarrely compressed/stretched images lol

In general, stick to the following proportions:
Table: 54-58
Depth: 60.5-62.4
Crown: 34-35 (35.5 is ok with a 40.6 pavillion)
Pavillion: 40.6-40.8 (41 can be ok with 34 crown)

Run stones through the HCA to check that the angles are complimentary.

@jp201845 thats actually the screen shot of the actual diamond from the GCAL report from what I was told.

@lovedogs sorry I don’t have the video of the diamond, only the picture at the moment. I asked the store if they can provide the video.

I found the diamond on their website and there is a video. I think it looks pretty good. Sadly I can't link the video because their website isn't user friendly and there aren't unique links to anything.

Also, do you need to work with this specific vendor? Looks like they don't have a ton of options that are well cut.

For 10K, I would want the best possible stone, period.

Whiteflash has in-house ideal cut diamonds that are essentially the best available (in terms of cut).

You said 10K range so I was looking for under 11K but certainly can lower to 10K exactly if that's preferred.

There are a ton of options in your budget that will be significantly better than either of these options. Here is what I used to search (D-H color, IF-SI1 clarity, bigger than 1.06ct, and "in house")

Best advice here! For 10k you can get the best cut and have all the upgrade policies etc that come with it.
