I need to recut a stone of mine. I prefer some precision cut. I know there are a lot of lapidarists being recommended here like gene, jerry, white. However, I dont think contacting each one of lapidarist on the list is wise. Thank you.
What’s the stone you’re having recut, and what do you want done with it?

I am having a spinel recut right now so if it turns out well I will ask if I can recommend him to you. I purchased a different spinel from him and it was amazing and I was looking for someone to do a recut so I asked if he could do it. He has had it for a couple of months and it’s not finished yet but due to the holidays I’m not really concerned.
Watching, have a spinel that needs a recut!
My spinel is done! It was cut in a European cut pattern (no culet) and went from a windowed oval of 2.14ct to a 1.43ct round of 7.15x4.26mm. I don’t have it yet so all I have is snapshots from a video he sent me. It’s an extremely clean, darkish cranberry/wine purple color. It has amazing sparkle and dispersion - it did before too but only on the outside part of the oval.
I can’t wait to see it in person.
Here’s the after photos. It’s pretty amazing but I’m a terrible photographer. It has a gleaming polish and the facets are chunky and flashy European cut. I already want another one.
The stone can appear dark in low light but because of the cut the light return makes it sparkle with just a little bit of light. In indirect light it’s a pretty cranberry pink purple color that isn’t all that dark and flashes all kinds of colors.
Hopefully you get the idea from these photos. They were all taken in natural light near a window. The one on the left is a different violet spinel.
@CaseyLouLou, can you recommend the lapidary you used for this recut?
Yes! I got permission to refer people to him but I didn’t mention I was posting on here so hopefully he won’t be completely overwhelmed by PSers!
He said he was going to the Tucson show next week.
He has an Etsy shop so you can contact him there or by email.
