Finally, we have decided to take the plunge and get a car. My husband wants an Audi Q7, whereas I think an SUV in Manhattan is a bit silly. The car will be a general runaround, but must be capacious enough for weekend getaways to Long Island in summer, and trips to CT throughout winter. As for me, I much prefer the Audi A6.

Does anyone own either model? Care to share honest opinions?

No sorry....I just got my volvo suv and love it!!! It is too big for QUeens living in my opinion...But the movers come tomorrow and we''re off to NC!!.And the Audi is bigger and you''re in NYC....about the Lexus RX350 which I had...It is a great car and smaller....Best of luck!

I think Audi cars are great, but like you said, an SUV is kind of silly in Manhattan. Well, a full size SUV is a bit silly, but something like Lexus RX or GX would be okay. I had a GX and I loved it (except for the annoying 3rd row seat) but I sold it because I''m going to get something bigger. Even the Mercedes M class would be good.

Also, if I''m not mistaken, this is Audi''s first SUV and I think their technology works better for sedans. I like the A4.

I have an A4, which I absolutely love. I''ve driven the Q7 a few times while in Colorado for work and really enjoyed it each time. My FMIL has an A6 and loves her car too. FI and I are considering buying a Q7 when we replace his car with an SUV. I bought the A4 while I lived in Boston. Having something larger didn''t make sense with parking, etc. So, with that being said, I agree with the others that a smaller car might make more sense for you. The A6 is very nice, and quite roomy.

I drive an A4 and love it. Ivew driven many cars and few have the same ride as Audis. Especially through the rain or snow (go for the quattro).

What about the Audi A6 allroad quattro?

This car will lower its suspension on demand (like the VE toureg) Sweet ride, more room then the A4 or A6.

Happy Hunting.

I had an A4 when I lived in LA a few years ago and I LOVED it. My dad has an A6 now and it's a great car. I'm in NYC as well and I think you would like the A6--easier for parking but definitely roomy enough so you won't feel squished and you'll be comfortable on road trips. Plus, with the Quattro you won't have to worry about snow, rain, etc. I love Audis.

I have the A4...its my 2nd one, and I love it!! Audi's are great cars. Plus, with the quattro, they are great in bad weather. I say go with the A6, which will still be roomy, but not really large like the Q7, which will probably become really cumbersome after awhile in Manhattan.

Just to toss out another option, DH and I just got a brand new A3 and love, love, love it. It''s a hatchback. Some people love them, though, some people cannot stand them. it is perfect for us. we have a dog, mainly use the car for groceries, trips, etc and the hatchback gives us a great amount of useful room without having a hulking SUV in the city. seriously it''s a fantastic car. and the sunroof (which stretches basically the length of the entire vehicle) is tremendous.

good luck with whatever you choose!

Wow Ursula, keeping a car on Manhattan! When I lived in NYC in my 20s, I was the only one of extended circle of friends who kept a car; it was always kind of a kick when I picked someone up to head out of town and they''d realize that it was the first time they''d been in a privately owned car in years, lol.

I didn''t drive it very much, though. It was a BMW coupe that I kept just across the river in Queens for times I left the city. IMO, owning/driving a car between Manhattan destinations is a PITA when there are so many better options; thus, how it handles within Manhattan is kind of a non-issue if it''s likely that 90%+ of the time it''s used is for weekends out of town. In fact, if the main use will be filling it up with all the accoutrements of weekend getaways to the beach, having a small SUV might make good sense.

I''m not too familiar with the Audi line, but I''d think something small, agile, yet roomie like a BMW X3 SUV would be the perfect auto. It''s the size of a car and handles like one, but has the additional vertical space for carrying suitcases, golfbags, and the like.
