Hey everyone,

I've been searching for the best E-Ring for my lady. Here is an example of a ring she tried on and loved - http://www.genesisdiamonds.net/a-jaffe-me1865q-engagement-ring.html

My jeweler has designed the a very similar ring, see attached images. Ignore the protruding posts on top! I think this looks good but would love your opinions on the ring before moving forward. My girl wanted the basket setting because she didn't want her diamond to be sitting too high. To me, the rendering attached looks pretty high but I haven't seen in person yet. Her must have's are a very thin band with 1 round diamond in the center.

Any opinions and advice would be greatly appreciated. We're going to be putting a 2.2 carat in here on a 7.5 size ring. IS THAT TOO BIG? BIG ENOUGH?

I think the stone would look rather big on her finger but in a good way 8-)

Hopefully the more experienced PSers will chime in soon. Personally I like the ring and I have the following reflecions:

- the stone can be lowered a bit. It will be nice to see the culet of the diamond (this is the pointy end on the lower end of the diamond) when you look at the ring from the side.
- personally I do not like it if the prongs (the pointy bits that will hold the diamond) come out of nothing. I prefer this look but it's a very personal decision
- I love these technical drawings even better than the original

Thank you Acinom for the words of wisdom!!

You're welcome :wavey:

Another consideration:
Your design allows a wedding band to sit flush with the engagement ring: there will be no gap.
The design I posted has a small donut (the small round at the base of the ring): there will therefore be a small gap between wedding band and ring. What's best depends on your own taste and preference.

Hopefully others will chime in as well. Enjoy the process!

Anyone else able to chime in on this with their opinions? I'm getting close to buying and there's no better opinion than the unbiased folks here on the boards! :wavey: :wavey:

Hi dsp101 - and welcome!

I have seen that sort of design in various formats and like it very much. I think your version of it looks lovely! 2.2ct on a 7.5 finger, while generous, definitely won't be too large. I wear a 3.1ct stone on a size 6.5 - 7 finger and it seems normal to me, although people do get used to larger diamonds pretty easily! :) Anyway, I think 2.2ct on 7.5 finger will be elegant but substantial - so good choice!

The stone doesn't seem to me to sit too high. While not sitting right *on* the finger, I think it will look moderate and be very wearable.

Nice choice - and congratulations!

Thanks for the advice and insight!

I'd like the diamond to sit lower as well. The girdle should sit closer to the melees. The prongs probably won't appear as thick as they do in the mock up. Are you going with claw prongs or another style?

what do you mean by? The girdle should sit closer to the melees.

Not sure about prongs yet! Any suggestions?

I think we like the rounded prongs best.

You have a beautiful ring in the works! That size stone should give her great finger coverage! :appl: I think the stone could be set a little lower where the culet shows more. (However, it could just look high due to all the empty space under the basket?) If you like more rounded prongs hopefully they can keep them less bulky and more delicate. I agree with Acinom regarding the prongs kind of come out of nowhere, but maybe you will prefer that depending on how flush you want the band. Looking forward to seeing how your project progresses. You are putting a lot of thought & care into what makes her happy so that's what counts!

It's good to get some thumbs up from you all -- thanks!

Yes, the prongs will be much smaller and delicate on the actual ring. They need to match the thin and delicate band and the jeweler has informed me they will make them as small as possible.

As far as the diamond sitting lower, I think the rendering is off a bit. I'm sure it'll sit snug in the basket on the actual ring.

I appreciate all your feedback and will certainly keep everyone posted. More good news.... I'm in Texas and my jeweler is in NY so I'll save on tax and shipping. OH and he's a family friend of my future in-laws so I'm getting the family discount ;-)

Is it normal to have dreams about this ring, night after night!?!??!

:appl: :appl: :appl: :appl: :appl: :appl: :appl:

I'm ready to roll, just wanting on jeweler to find the perfect rock and move forward!!

The reason you see advice about setting the stone lower in the basket is to prevent top heaviness, which tends to cause the ring to spin more easily, get knocked into things more easily, scratch others more easily and snag clothes/things more easily.

That makes sense. I think the rendering just shows the stone higher than it should be. I would think the actual ring will have the diamond flush and lower.

CADs are drawn to represent the end result. The wax moulds are made based on the CADs so they are drawn to scale to make sure the diamond count is correct, know how far out the prongs need to be and more, therefore, what you see now is what you will get. Do NOT presume; ask now for clarification.

Just emailed the designer. Will report back shortly.

Update... just got these specs from the GIA report. Diamond is at the jeweler....

You might want to post about the actual diamond specs in rocky talky for more responses.

Thanks I just didn't want to make an entirely new thread.
