Your opinions are greatly appreciated as I feel I am driving myself crazy with this...

Here''s the story (I''ll try to be brief)...My original e-ring had a 0.38ct diamond in it. I never liked the setting as my MIL and not my DH picked it out (long story there). My DH has always been sentimental about this setting b/c it was the ring he proposed to me with. A couple of years ago my MIL gave me her original e-ring diamond, a 1.5ct round, when she got a new one. I wanted to get a new setting for the bigger diamond, but he was still sentimental about this setting so I put the bigger diamond in it. I wore it this way for about 3 years but was never crazy about the way it looked b/c the diamond was too big for the setting.

This past February I put the 1.5ct in a solitaire setting. I really like the solitaire setting but my DH was upset that I was no longer going to be wearing my original e-ring setting, although he admitted he liked the solitaire better. I know I''m skipping a lot of details, but I basically got a new diamond recently, a 0.72ct that I had put in a 4 prong tiffany setting. It was supposed to be part of a set that "we" picked out.

I have never liked the tiffany setting. I had the diamond set higher, and I still don''t like it. Right now I alternate wearing the 0.72ct and the 1.5ct solitaires.

So here''s my idea -- since my DH is obviously sentimental about my old setting, should I just put the 0.72ct back into it? I suppose the setting isn''t that bad and I know it would mean a lot to him for me to wear my original setting again. I''m not sure why he''s not sentimental about the diamond, it''s just the setting.

I''ll try to post some pics to show the old setting. I didn''t have a digital camera at the time so I''m sorry for the quality. It is a bypass design with 3 x 0.02ct channel set rounds on each side.

Here''s what it looked like with the 1.5ct in it. It looked like a coctail ring to me and also looked dated. I think it looked better with the smaller diamond.

AArgh! I always have trouble with these pics. Let me try again.

Second attempt at pic....

For whatever reason I can''t get it to load...trust me, the ring looks kind of dated.

If I don''t put it back in the original setting I was thinking about getting a chunkier solitaire setting like my 1.5ct is in now.

Thanks for the opinions.

Have you considered wearing the original setting as a RHR? You can then keep wearing the solitaire on our left hand since you prefer the style and it's more "engagementy" looking. If you still have the .38 the first setting it came with, you can put it back so the ring is in its original condition and the extra .72 can be made into a pendant.
Talk about bling

Awww, Jelly, I''m sorry that you don''t like the higher head on your Tiffany style setting. I was hoping that you woulld!

As for going back to the setting that you didn''t like, I would not. It has just as many unhappy memories for you as it does good memories for your husband. It bothers you that your hubby was not the one to pick it out and you don''t care for the style.

If you decide that you still want to wear it sometimes, I''m with LollyBear. I''d put the stone that was originally in it back in there. I would not put your new .72 stone in it. I''d keep saving up for the eternity-style setting for your .72 if I were you.

What a saga, eh?

I agree - I''d put the 0.38 ct back into the original ering setting and wear that as a RHR. I''d save up for the eternity style band you really want for the 0.72 ct and for right now, wear the 1.5 ct (or the 0.72 ct in the tiff setting) as your ering. When you can afford the eternity setting, put the 0.72 ct in it, and then you''ve got 2 looks you love - the 1.5 ct stone in the solitaire, and the 0.72 ct in the eternity.

This solves 2 problems at once - your DH won''t be upset you''re not using the original mounting, because you ARE - you''d be wearing your EXACT original ering as a RHR, and you''d also get your 0.72 ct stone in a setting you really WANT and love. And you SHOULD love it - it''ll be on your finger every day.

I agree, put the .38 back in the original setting and wear as a RHR.

I agree with everyone else--put your original .38 back into the original seting & wear it as a RHR. Good luck!

Do you still have the .38 carat stone? Is the new .72 carat diamond too big for this setting? How would you feel about wearing this ring with either stone as a right hand ring? That would certainly be the easiest solution.

I thought about making it a RHR but the only rings I wear daily are my wedding set. Since I have two toddlers I am constantly taking them off anyway when I wash dishes or their hands or play with them outside in the sandbox.

I suppose I could make it a RHR and wear it when we go "out" (like, twice a year). The 0.38ct is in a pendant right now but I could put it back in its original home.
