Need setting advice, will I regret an emerald halo?

Hi everyone, I currently have the vatche u-113 from whiteflash, a Tiffany-esque solitaire. It is beautiful and classic and easy to clean, I do love it. But I want an emerald halo, I can't get it out of my head. I haven't done it because I've read emeralds are on the soft side and can get damaged. I am a pale strawberry blonde and green is my favorite color, it really suits my skin tone. In November I just had my 20th wedding aniversary and the traditional gemstone for that is emerald. I found a semi-mount that has the vintage octogon look that I like. Most of the time I wear a 4mm plain comfort fit gold band (around the house, errands, etc). I only wear my current set when going to church or dinner, etc. so the ring doesn't need to be super durable. Can you see how I'm talking myself into this? ha! There is lots of wisdom & experience on these boards, so I wanted to post about it here before I do anything. Could you please share your thoughts with me? Anyone else have emeralds or gemstones in their setting? Thank you!

Do you have any inspiration photos so we can see what you have in mind?

Could you consider an emerald halo as a right hand ring? That way you get the best of both worlds, the practicality and durability of your solitaire, plus the option of the slightly higher maintenance emerald halo on certain occasions. And you could choose any shape centre diamond then. There are quite a few vintage or repro examples online, eg 1st Dibbs or ebay.

Congrats on 20 years, my 20th will be in 5 days!
I already have an emerald, pear, in a diamond halo and it’s one of my favourite rings.
Agree, it’s not an everyday wearing ring, I reserve it for “going out” but also having Opal rings (which require more care) I don’t fret when I wear it.
I tend to wear it in lieu of my engagement ring because I’m right handed. Wearing it on my left means it’s not the hand opening doors, rummaging through my handbag etc etc.
Reduces the chances of me catching it or whacking it into something because I am a klutz!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE what you’re describing!!!!! Speak to someone who made your semi-mount and ask if an emerald gets cracked can it be easily replaced. I cracked one in a channel setting and it was replaced and you’d never know. I see emerald halos for sale on Era Gems that are still in very good shape after 100 years!!
Smaller emeralds like in a delicate halo aren’t that hard to match IMHO. Pls let us know what you decide.

I saw the sapphire one first and fell in love. I’m all about the octogon, it speaks to me. Then I called them and found out they also make it in emerald and I was like my dreams have come true :heart eyes:3699212A-54DF-439B-A70D-7628B885B821.png

I think it would look stunning with your diamond! The emeralds would be protected by a bezel. They would also be surrounded by the diamond halo giving them more protection. Please show us photos if you decide to do this!

Be still my heart. That is the most incredible emerald ring I’ve ever seen!!! It’s jaw-droppingly awesome! Wow! I’m so glad you wear it and it doesn’t sit in a box :kiss2:

Good thinking! I’ll call them tomorrow and find out what happens if an emerald does need to be replaced down the line.

Hey, you make good points I didn’t think of. They would be protected somewhat on both sides. This exactly why I asked, it’s good to hear different perspectives. Thank you!

I’ve admired that on Ivy & Rose!!!!!!

Those are both very nice! These pictures are making me realize that once an emerald or asscher is halo’d, it has 8 sides. Yes, I’m slow on these things LOL. I like both of those. A right hand ring would be nice... decisions, decisions
