So as a wedding gift for my Fiancee I have decided that I want to get her some pearls. We set a budget of $1000 for the gift and so here are my choices...

A) A stud earring in an 8-10mm..($300) and a nice necklace in the $700 range that is 7.5-8mm.
B) 10MM hanging pearl earring with a diamond on top of it.$500 Then a lower quality pearl necklace for $500

I found a set of pearls I like for $250...but I almost feel like I am skimping. I had the $500 figure in my brain and dont want to settle on anything. Can I get a noticeably nicer set passing on the $250 set and going and hunting for something a bit more expensive? My major factor in being torn is....1) I like that I can get a nicer necklace if i get studs, but they seem to plain and question how they will look on the wedding day. 2) I like themore expensive earrings but then dont like how that cuts into the necklace budget.

thoughts? does any of that even make sense????

oh and I am going through a friend who is a jeweler for the pearls. he is giving me them at cost, and the set for $250 actually had a nice white color and the sheen on them was really nice.

It''s lovely that you want to give your fiancee pearls for your wedding day. Whether you should get the stud earrings or the pearl dangles and what type of necklace is a matter of budget but it also depends on the style and cut of your fiancee''s wedding dress, how she''s planning to wear her hair, the veil, etc. You might want to check with her mother or one of her best friends to get a better idea of the style that she''d want then we''d be able to better help you find the best pearls for your budget.

Joe,

You will find Pearlparadise.com has fantastic pearls and the Freshadamas just blow away anything near the price range you can find in a B&M(store)

I think you would be really happy with this entire set http://www.pearlparadise.com/7580-mm-White-Freshadama-Freshwater-Pearl-Set747.aspx these would be just about the best freshwater pearls you will find in terms of lustre and shape. I could barely tell the difference between these and fine akoyas. You will see that it is my thread D&T referenced. You can get the whole 7.5-8mm set for $370 with the 14% discount all this month.
Also if you want to jazz them up a bit you might consider upgrading the clasp to http://www.pearlparadise.com/Pave-Diamond-Ball-Clasp-14K-Gold-90-mm324.aspx

For the earrings you need to know what looks best on your FF's earlobes as to sizing. But you could also get this http://www.pearlparadise.com/85-90-mm-White-Freshadama-Freshwater-Pearl-Set752.aspx for $250 in 10-10.5mm size
You could get the set of pearls the clasp for the necklace and the earrings all for under $1000 with the 14% discount :).
---------------------------------------------------------

You could also get this whole set http://www.pearlparadise.com/85-90-mm-White-Freshadama-Freshwater-Pearl-Set752.aspx that is what I bought for my fiance 8.5-9mm set of white freshadamas and she was thrilled with them. 8.5 - 9mm and $950 with 14% discount.

Also you shouldn't think of any of these options as skimping I would expect you to pay 3X - 5X more in a store to get anything close to the the sets above and these are just about the best freshwater pearls I have seen period.
I am doing a test next week I will report back. I went to Birks one of the top quality stores in town and I asked them to bring in their highest quality freshwaters in 8.5 - 9mm with the slight rose overtone. I will do a final comparison test but I am sure that the Freshadamas will beat theirs or be equal in lustre and shape and surface quality. Freshadamas blew away the akoyas in Tiffany's I was looking at.

Good-luck with your purchase. My only complaint about the Freshadamas I got my Fiance was that she hardly ever wears them and thinks that they should only be worn for a special occasion

Joe, I second calling Pearl Paradise! They will knock your socks off and as ChunkyCushionLover said, there are very few jewelry stores that can match the price and the quality of what you can get from Jeremy... That 3 piece set is a knockout!

If you search for Pearl Paradise here on Pricescope, you will see that there are not only beautiful photos but very happy customers.

I found two stores that had similar quality pearls today I was shocked the lustre on the cultured pearls at The Bay! was the same WOW!. But Still 4X the price. So yes you can find similar quality but the price is unbeatable at PP.

Thanks you for the post.

Hi Joe -

How about going for those fantastic earrings you described, and waiting for your first anniversary to present her with a stunning necklace?

This way you get the best quality pearls that you are seeking. Your jeweler friend will be of great help to you, knowing the earrings well he''ll then be able to guide you towards a necklace of the same quality.

Happy Nuptuals

Julie.
