I got engaged almost exactly one month ago, and I still love my ring so much that I can''t stop staring at it. However, I just realized something that I hadn''t thought about before and I need some advice. My fiance had my ring custom made because I loved the ritani 4-prong endless love setting, but the band was too thin for me. So the new ring has a few variations from the ritani, all which I love, except for this one snag that I just realized. The prongs on my ring were soldered on in a way that they stick out on the side. This didn''t bother me at all at first...I actually liked the way that it looked. But all of a sudden, the other day, I realized that the construction of the prongs means that a wedding band will not sit flush against it. Any ideas about what I can do? I''ve heard of some people getting wbands made to kind of hug their protruding prongs, but I want to be able to wear my wband alone so I don''t think this will be a good option. Do you think that it would look terrible if I don''t come up with any ideas and there is a space btween the ering and wband?

Here is the ring....

Your ring is really beautiful!

I don''t think it would be "terrible" at all if there was a space between the e-ring and w-band. Some people hate the gap, some don''t care. If you don''t mind then it would not matter at all. It''s all about your preference. It doesn''t look like the gap would be that huge anyway.

If you decided you can''t stand the gap, how bout this for an idea:

If you get an eternity ring to match the band of your e-ring, what if you put notches in it so it would sit up close to the e-ring (notches to fit in with the prongs), but then if you wore your w-band alone you could turn the side that had the notches around to the palm of your hand, and you''d never know they were there.

But really, it doesn''t look like the gap will be that big, so as long as it doesn''t bother you then I''d say it''s fine.

Another alternative is possibly getting the base of the prongs "filed" down (I don''t even know if that is possible, but you could always ask the jeweler who made it) so they were a bit flatter and the gap wouldn''t be so big.

Good luck! Where is your original e-ring post? I''d love to see more pics of your ring, it''s really stunning!

Thanks Idecisive...I love your name--i thought I was the most indecisive person in the world, but I guess I have some competition

I did think about getting a wband with "notches" for the prongs to fit into and then flipping the band around when wearing it alone. I just don''t know how this will look. Does anyone have a picture of something similiar to this? While I''m asking for pics....does anyone have pics of an ering and wband with space between them? I''d love to be able to see how both of these options would look....

btw indecisive--I posted my ering pics on the thread called ...and another one bites the dust.... in the ladies in waiting forum. If you want some more, I have plenty

I agree, your ring is beautiful. I love the pave around the basket. I think you should probably have a band made to fit around your e-ring or wear one on your right hand. There have been many discussions latey of the damage diamonds can to when rubbing up against each other or even the prongs on your e-ring. Check out this link scroll down to where the discussions changes to matching bands. In Kayla17''s post, she talks about how a shared prong 7 stone ring was damaging her Leon Mege platinum prongs..

I really do love your ring and what a beautiful diamond

I didn''t want a gap so I had my ring created with that in mind, but many other people have small gaps and don''t mind at all. Demelza''s ring has a tiny gap that she didn''t expect but in the pictures it is very hard to see it...maybe look up that thread.

I wouldn''t notch the w-ring if you wanted to wear it alone, even if you could turn it to your palm where the notches are, chances are it would spin a bit and then it would be a toss up if the notches showed etc.

I''d go into the stores and try on a few eternity rings to see what you may be able to like...then go from there!

By the way your setting is fabulous, love your stone and ring!!

I'll say it again, your ring is splendid looking! I love the little crown of diamonds in the basket.

As far as the gapy, it's all a matter of preference. The best advice has been given. Try on a few and see how you like it. You may decide you can live with the gap. Otherwise, maybe consider having a custom made band with an ever so slight curve, if you will, to it. Bear in mind that this design is not the best if you will want to wear your band separately at times.

Good luck with your decision and please keep us posted.

here''s a link to Demelza''s rings that Mara mentioned.

I would say go and try stuff on and see how you feel about it. Some don''t mind the gap, some do....

If you want a band that will hug around your gorgeous e-ring, why not get something like that AND then you can get another ring to wear separately when you want to wear only a wedding band? That way you can be versatile and mix and match stuff too if you want to. I have a 3 ring set, and I move them around a lot...plus a have a separate gold wedding band that I wear alone too. It''s fun to mix it up a bit.

Funny though, when I am at work, I can tell that some people notice that I wear my rings in different combos, and they probably think I am crazy...hehe...maybe I am!

Your ring is so beautiful...Follow to great advice of testing the waters--try on some bands and see what happens. I always operate under the premise of trying to avoid manipulating a piece of jewelry unless it is absolutely necessary.

I love your ring.

Definitely try it out with a bunch of bands. I was the way Mara was. I planned for that with my e-ring. I dislike the gaps.

Psuheather - hey, I know your ring! I drooled over it like crazy! (And have pics of it saved on my computer in my "things I love" folder,

) I too love the Ritani but the band is too thin for my tastes. And then voila, one day I saw your ring in SMTR and went, "that''s the perfect thickness!" How many mm is it?

Anyway, what everyone said - try some bands on, see if the gap bothers you. If its small it may not. Can you get a crappy $10 CZ band from the mall and wear it with your e-ring for a day and see how the gap goes, if it bothers you?

And keep in mind, even if you have two rings without a gap, sometimes they will move differently on your finger and not sit 100% flush all the time either, so maybe it''s not such a big deal?

Thanks so much to everyone who offered a suggestion. Sorry I haven''t responded earlier...I woke up pretty sick this morning. Sick enough that I didn''t really want to get out of bed, but not sick enough that I could stay away from PS

I think that you guys are right, I should test out a few different wbands to see if I mind the gap, which honestly, I think that I probably won''t that much. And you''re right indecisive...I''ve been keenly aware of people''s wband and ering combinations that I see when I''m out and about, and even when people do have sets that sit flush against each other, they are rarely sitting nice and still and snug. But now I''m worried about the wband rubbing against the prongs and wearing them away...did anyone go to the link that mrssalvo provided regarding a conversation about this occuring? Oh, what to do??!! I agree with Jennifer that I don''t want to manipulate the ring if I can come up with another solution, but I''m feeling like I might have to...does anyone have any input about this? Is it possible to either shave down the prongs where they stick out or even reposition them maybe so that they''re soldered more on the inside of the ring rather than protruding out without really risking something bad happening?

***oh, and thanks for all the compliments

Despite this problem, I really do love the ring! My grad school performance is suffering as a direct result! Indecisive--I have measured the band and it looks like it''s exactly 2mm, maybe 2.1. I think that the ritani is about 1.8 mm. I''ts crazy to think that .2-.3mm would make that much of a difference, but it really does. IMO, it just makes the ring seem a bit more substantial while still maintaining it''s delicacy.

Well, there isn''t anything I can say that hasn''t already been said, but I just wanted to say (again) how gorgeous that ring is! And I second, third, whatever, the idea that you should definitely just hit up some jewelry stores and try on all different kinds of bands and see what happens from there!

Good luck and keep us up to date!!

I think if you got a channel set band you would probably be ok. it''s just the diamonds on a shared prong that might cause problems. have fun trying a bunch on
