Inspired by many lovely rings here, I decided to go with a green tourmaline for my e-ring and purchased one of Barry''s cushion cuts. I love my stone, but I''ve got some questions about having it set. I''m in love with the Hearts on Fire Simply Bridal Leaf setting. I''ve seen Clairitek''s e-ring which I love and is very similar to the HoF setting. (https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/clairiteks-cushion-engagement-ring.100879/)
I''ve just started working with a local jeweler to make a custom setting based on the HoF setting. I understand that he cannot copy the design outright. He is suggesting V-prongs to protect the corners of the stone, which just seems all wrong to me! Too blocky and square for both the stone and the setting for my taste. It also warps the fluidity of the "petals" on the head of the setting. I like delicate and dainty, and don''t want the setting to overpower the stone.
Can the prongs stay as is (modified to fit the cushion, but still just the basic four prong setting) and still adequately protect the corners of the stone? I''ve seen rings here on PS that have the same cut stone with a four prong setting, but they have all had halos surrounding them which I would guess adds extra protection. I love the head of the HoF and Clairitek''s e-ring. I don''t know how else to change the design enough for it not be a "copy." I''ve played with the idea of having milgrain and some "engraving" (something along the lines of walter''s e-ring https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/my-her-sapphire-ering-wf-rwise-fixed.103395/). Would adding the engraving and keeping the head the same be enough to make it
Thanks for any suggestions or help!
