HELP!!!!!!!!!!! Ok, I''ve looked around for a couple of weeks and now want to enlist the help of the experts here...
emteeth.gif

Please help me find a sapphire for the WF full bezel pendant (http://www.whiteflash.com/Fine-jewelry/Pendants/Full-Bezel-Pendant--SETTING-ONLY_669.htm) . Here''s what I''m thinking:

- want a heat treated sapphire to keep the cost reasonable - less than $200
- want it to be a nice size to stand alone in the pendant (there will be no halo, etc.) so I''m thinking 5-7 mm.
- want the stone to be a clear, medium blue - not inky dark and not "electric" lighter blue. Since it will be bezel set, I should probably go a tad lighter so when it''s set, it''s a nice medium blue.
- I don''t want the stone to be greenish or grayish at all. I don''t mind a little violet/purple tint, but want it to be mainly blue.
- I''ll need to order it, have it sent to me, take a look, and then I''ll send it to WF. So I need a good, reputable online dealer with a good return policy.

Thanks - I can''t wait to see what you ladies find for me. I''ll post a few I''ve found, so feel free to comment and educate me! I''ve never bought a loose stone before!

What a fun project!

I don''t have a lot of advice, as I''ve never purchases a gem before. But- of those you posted I like the first on the best. The cut looks more precise than the other ones.

thanks Dani!

Anyone else who can offer any help/guidance????

Since I am going through the sapphire buying process, I thought I would chime in. I really like the first stone from AJS, however, please consider that they are overseas and if you buy a stone from a site that is overseas, it may bet pretty costly to send it back if the stone is not to your liking. AJS has a good reputation. I would email them before you buy the stone to get there opinions on it. Have you tried the Natural Sapphire Company or Simply Sapphires. Since they are in the states, I would consider them. They both have a great reputation and a good return policy. I just get pyranoid sending something back overseas........ but that is just me..

Is there a reason why Whiteflash couldn't source a sapphire for you? I am quite certain they could... unless you chose not to go that route.

FYI, GemSelect is also overseas and I haven''t the first idea as to how to return things back to them because they route their stuff through somewhere in Texas.

I haven''t looked at the stones because I''m about to leave, but I''ll be back later.

I agree with you ccn! I''d rather go through a us company. But natural sapp. co. sells mostly untreated (and therefore, out of budget). Lesley thought this first stone looked nice and said I should inquire about it. Maybe I''ll call and talk to them about it. Thanks and others--please chime in!

The ones from gemselect all seem to have a bit of a window. The ajs one looks nice. You might also call/email them to see if they have anything that''s not on their website that fits your criteria.

thanks kismet!!

I knew they are from overseas as well. I am just not familiar with them as I am AJS... also, I didn''t think there stones looked as nice as the AJS one.

I would definately check out Simply sapphires for sure. They do have better prices than the NSC..... John may have something in stock but not listed on his site. I am sure he can take pics of it for you..... and work within your budget!

I''m having a hard time getting to their website (simply sapphires)!

I wonder if John is updating his site... but here it the link. ( I hope it is o.k. to post it here! )

he must have been - thanks! I just sent him an email...

give him a few days...

you may also try forevergemstones.com

thanks!

frekechild, I can''t wait for you to tell me what you think and/or give me your suggestions!

Lesley and Bob at WF liked the ajs stone so I bought it! Here''s hoping it''s gorgeous in real life. If so, after I get it, it''ll be on it''s way to TX...

YAY! I think AJS is pretty safe to go with. They have a good reputation and I am sure if Bob and Lesley give you the thumbs up... it may be a keeper!!!

I think the AJS stone looks really pretty. You''ll have to post pics when you get it!

I''m sorry I didn''t get back earlier-I''ve been busy or driving most of the day. Anyway--I''m so excited for you!!

thanks ladies! I can''t wait to see it. I''d been eyeing that stone since I started my search so after Lesley had Bob look at it and he said it was a nice stone and a good price, I felt like I needed to jump on it! Rung (from ajs) emailed me to say that it was a nice medium blue (not too dark or light) and was a great value. I just got an email saying it had shipped so hopefully I''ll have it by the weekend! Not sure how long it''ll take to get to NC but we''ll see.

I''ll absolutely post photos when I get it. I have a newish camera that I''ve been meaning to use to get some more shots of all my jewelry so maybe I''ll do a photo shoot once the "blue baby" gets here!

And thanks for your feedback cushioncutnut and frekechild!

Just a quick update on little Maddy (she''s from Madagascar you know...). My husband thinks I''m a nut for naming a sapphire.
emsmile.gif
She has gone from the mine in Madagascar to AJS Gems in Thailand and at last check (FedEx) was in Ankorage, Alaska. She''ll be here tomorrow morning by 10:30! I''ll be sure to post pics as soon as I can. I hope I love her!

WOOOOOHOOOOOO How very exciting! I hope Maddy has a good trip!

That''s a great idea to name her (how do you know she''s a girl?). I''m going to try and come up with one. Mine came from SriLanka ...should I call her Suri??

Or would I get sued by TomKat??

Pics tomorrow, right?

LS

Dani and LS, you know I''ll post pics of her (and you''re right - maybe she''ll be a "he"!) asap. I''m making my hubby bring her to me at work since I won''t be home when she arrives. So I should be able to get some pics up in the afternoon!

we''ll be waiting!

Ha, you are lucky that my inlaws are in town because Bob at WF sent me that sapphire to look at last week for my mom''s project but I was too busy to act.

It looks gorgeous and I hope you love it!!!!

Hi all! Maddy has arrived and she is a pretty little thing! I''m taking photos as we speak and will be back soon! She''s smaller than I expected so I''m a little torn on whether to do the bezel setting I''d originally picked (one that slides on the chain) or if I should do the stationary bezel (or something else). I love the bellerina but I don''t think I can afford it. That would be perfection....

be right back!
