Is it possible? has anyone done it?

Its an online merchant not a private jewller. i don''t think you can bargain prices if thats what you mean.

Yes, you can. I did and they came down $1000 on a approx 20K purchase. It turned out that I bought from another vendor in the end, but Union would deal. They were very nice too.

really? thats GREAT news!!!

Did you have to give them a strong reason to come down or just play a little hardball??

We were comparing 2 stones, one more money than the other. I told them my husband couldn''t see the difference and could they do something with the price on the better one. They came back with the 1K off on their own. I didn''t even set that number so probably they would have done more if I pushed. Whole thing was by email.

But in the end, I saw another stone that I liked more elsewhere. Union people were very nice to deal with, I would buy from them.

Really? Thats good to know. Its probably also because the purchase is 20K and not say 5K. I dealt with them and they refused to budge.

Tdiggity if they are willing to bargain with you, please let me know.

I had sort of let on that I was "concerned" about the price, too, when I was shopping for my diamond. He didn't sound at all like he was willing to move on the price (and ultimately didn't). He was extremely kind and courteous, just not "bargainable." Stone was in the 9K range. (price, not carat weight lol.)

I, too, would be interested to hear if you could make headway on the price.

(I ultimately went with another vendor.)

I recently purchased a cushion cut from Union Diamond and did not negotiate with them (now I wish I had!) but I did mention Pricescope and saved approximately $500( on a $17,500 diamond). Compare the price they have listed through their website to the price they list through Pricescope. Maybe you could do this AND negotiate! I was very happy with them and would definitely use them again. I also did the wire transfer which saved me more money and was very easy. Good luck!

I will add that we were looking at oval stones when they negotiated with me. I think ovals are somewhat harder to sell than rounds so maybe that is why they were flexible.

The fact it was an oval could be a reason why. Ovals are getting increasingly popular though.
I'm guessing the more expensive the purchase price the more they would want to close the sale. 20K is much more than what I was looking at. I wonder how much leeway these sellers have to negotiate if any at all. If it was the owner then I'm sure there is more room to bargain.

I was able to get a few hundred dollars off the Pricescope price for my purchase, which was a diamond around $11,000.

My reason, which was legitimate, was that I had to pay additional taxes and charges for the diamond to be shipped overseas (more than $1,000) - though I don''t think you really need a reason other than you would like it cheaper to suit your budget!

Even after I got the cheaper price I tried to push it down bit further but they didn''t budge, although they did try to suggest other diamonds within the price range I was suggesting.

I would always so go for it, because you really don''t have anything to lose!

Knuman, did you get your ring from Uniondiamond?

No, I didn''t end up getting a ring from there, though I was very tempted at one stage.

I wanted to take a bit more time with the setting because I wanted to do something a little different but I didn''t know exactly what - and the best way to do that was to deal with a local jeweller face to face and go through each intricate detail one by one.

But from what I hear and from the photos I have seen their settings also look excellent, so if they have something in the exact style you like I''d recommend going for it.

I am trying to buy some jewelry for my wife for her B-day and I am glad that I reviewed this thread, UnionDiamond was among some of the online sources that I was told to review.
I didn’t know that I was able to "play hardball", I thought that the price was the Price?
Are there other factors to consider when buying online and trying to maximize my purchase?
