This is a 1.55 carat fire opal from Mexico. It has no silk, and sparkles. This is Uli's vendor shot.

I took this picture on a grim cloudy rainy evening around 6:00 PM, and the stone pops off of my hand. I'm waiting to see it in sunlight.

Here is the stone in my kitchen with the light bouncing off of it, sparkling like mad. There is no brown or yellow in this stone.

 Man alive!! That stone is an invading alien! How very, very cool!!!!

That's spectacular. It looks like flame on your hand. What are your plans for it?

What a gorgeous color! I really admired that one on his website. Nice to see how beautiful it is IRL, as well

I too am interested in how you plan to set it.

:lickout: Very nice! I've looked at quite a few of his stones. He's on my to buy from list.

Very pretty! I was thinking about buying that one!

It's pretty, I love the color. :))

Now that is a stone with personality to spare. I have to ask, however, if you were to set it, how many prongs would you need, seven?

It looks DELICIOUS :cheeky:

I believe you'll need to custom set it?

Ooh so beautiful!

It's beautiful!
I also got a neon orange Mexican fire opal from Osirisgems & I love it. I would love to see yours in person & compare it with mine...

I considered getting this one as it’s a more realistic size while still coupled with a strong orange saturation compared to his other 10 ct stones. How does it compare to your other Uli fire opal?

Very nice!

I too am curious what metal you're going to set it in. I had Uli cut me an another oregon fire opal (totally different cut, similar orange, also far smaller than the ones on his site because they are all so deep), and am putting it in a 18k YG pendant. I haven't even seen the stone in person, I had it shipped directly to Julia.

Neat cut and I love that orange color!

Thank you all for the kind words.

I am not planning on setting it right away, as it is a septagon, and that poses some interesting setting issues. I bought it primarily for the color and to have in my collection, but it is worthy of setting. The color reminds me of those orange traffic cones, it's very neon.

My 14 carat Oregon fire opal, while very orange, is not as saturated as this gem, and it does have a little silk, but not a lot. This smaller fire opal has no silk. I love the color orange, but it is always difficult to find stones free of brown or yellow or both. This stone really fits the bill.

Vigor, I think you bought his round stone, and I would have preferred that one since the shape is easier to set, but when I see fine color, I often overlook cutting, shape, etc. . . Did you post a thread on it?

Delay,
Looking forward to seeing your pendant from Julia. :naughty:

Gorgeous color TL! I've admired that stone a few times myself. I'm glad you got it! :appl:

Hi TL! Pardon this slight thread jack-- I received a septagon from Osirisgems today and I've no idea what type of ring setting it could fit into. It sounds like you're stumped as well with this shape... do you have ANY idea? Thank you in advance :?

Oh TL that was on my wish list! I'm soooooo pleased it's gone to a good home. I can't wait to see what you do with it.

Wow, didn't realize how many people had this on their watch list. Thank you all for the lovely comments.

BabyNurse,
Haven't decided how I'll set it, but it would go in a four prong setting, but might look a little awkward, but it would work if you're not looking to get a customized setting. I would also hesitate to bezel a fire opal as well.

Below is a better photo on the hand showing the truer color. My camera washed out some of the photos above. I think Uli's photo gets it right though.

The top photo is a comparison shot of both fire opals I own from Uli. I think my large one holds it's own next to the smaller neon one, but the neon one is a bit more saturated and has less silk. The camera did a bad job capturing the color here. Sorry. My hand was also throwing a shadow on the larger stone as I was holding the camera, so it looks pretty dark here. Diffused sunlight.

I am on a "gem diet" after my last purchase so I did not even want to see what was going on... but could not keep myself from lurking. I had it on my watch list, too. Congratulations! The stone definitely has found a nice home.

How did you guess that, Sherlock? :Up_to_something: Yes, I did indeed get the smallish round one. It was a toss up between this and yours, but when Uli told me that the colour was near identical, I immediately went for the safe option (cos I can't quite trust myself not to chip a heptagon 8) ). I haven't posted pics yet.. though I will do it soon (I promise  ).

So bright.

Very interesting.
