Nervous about ring size

Hi all,

Was anyone else nervous about their ring size when looking for an engagement ring? I've been to 3 jewelers who all say I'm size 6. I guess I'm just not used to a properly fitted ring but they all feel a little tight to me. I'm also nervous about down the road (being pregnant, etc). Would you recommend a 6.25, or should I trust the jewelers and tell my bf size 6?

Thanks!

Lily, I think you could get a slightly larger size if the 6 feels too tight. But keep in mind that top-heavy rings may then flip or spin more easily. The main concern will be that it can get over your knuckle comfortably but not too easily that it would go flying off your hand. If it's just a matter of getting used to wearing a ring, you could get a cheapie to get used to wearing it. Good luck!

If your future engagement ring will be easily sizeable (e.g. a plain, half or 3/4 diamond eternity band), then you won't have any issues. You can send it back to the jeweler to get the size adjusted if it feels too tight. If you get a ring with a full eternity band, that will be harder to size (if possible at all) so I would err on the side of a slightly looser fit (as long as the ring is not at risk for falling off). Maybe you can pick up a cheap sterling silver band in your size to try out the fit?

Thanks ladies! It will be a plain band! I'm glad to hear this will be easily resizable!

One other thing to keep in mind is that adding a wedding band may tighten things up. The more you stack, the tighter it gets. So it may not be a bad idea to get both engagement ring and wedding band at 6.25 if you prefer a bit more wiggle room. Sizing is fairly easy with a plain shank on the engagement ring, but it's nicer and easier if you can get it right to begin with. I didn't like sending my engagement ring away for two weeks when I had to get it resized.

Lilyn85, I wear a size 5.5 and it is very difficult to get a ring over my knuckle, but once there the rings swivels around and doesn't stay In place. But my jeweler says that's my correct size. I guess I just have big knuckles :). As some of the ladies had already mentioned, make sure it's a ring that can be re-sized in the future.

Hi Rubybeth, is that a Memoire ring in your avatar? I'm mesmerized by memorires, and am planning to get one for my diamond. If you own one, can you tell me anything and everything about it, eg. Pointer size and how many stones. Or better yet, post pics? Thank you.

Nope, not a Memoire. It's the Whiteflash Danielle Jazz bezel band in 18k white gold: http://www.whiteflash.com/right-hand-rings/danielle-jazz-bezel-diamond-right-hand-ring-174.htm

There are more photos of it in my recent thread where I'm playing with my macro lens: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/loving-my-olloclip-macro-photos-of-rubybeths-collection.214653/

Have you ever tried on a ring with sizing beads? They bother some people, but I have them in my ering and I find they give a little more leeway with finger swelling, while also keeping the ring from spinning. So you could size at 6.25 and put beads in if needed, then pop them back out if fingers swell during pregnancy, etc.

I'd definitely try on some rings together with a wedding band similar in width to what you think you might pick and see how they feel - depending on width you may even want to go up to a 6.5 to be comfy together.

Have you tried on anythng to see what type of rings you like? If you are stacking with more than one band or if your Ering has a very wide shank then go bigger. On the other hand, if you go with a very thin style then you could probably get a band that is pretty true to size.

Thanks, all! My ering and band will both be thin. I think it's best to just go true to size - I'm sticking with a 6!

Do you all think if I need to go up to 6.25 later on it'll be easy to resize if both ering and band are plain?

Thanks!

Any good jeweler will be able to size up plain bands. If you're getting either ring engraved, though, you'll want the engraver to leave a blank space to allow for resizing.

I'm glad you've decided on the size your jewelers recommend. I have one ring that's a tiny bit too large - and I sometimes find it in the towel when I've dried my hands. :o Also bear in mind that for many of us, rings fit tighter in the summertime.

Great! Looking forward to seeing your completed set!
