Hi! I recently purchased this 1.03 H vvs1 elongated cushion to have set for a necklace. After noticing it on the dealer's video, I asked about the bowtie and they assured me it wasn't an issue. I went ahead and purchased it, and I do love the stone. When I took it to my local jeweler after purchasing they also commented on the bowtie and I didn't even mention it so I know I'm not crazy. Is it that bothersome to anyone else and does it devalue the stone? I bought it from a very reputable dealer that is often discussed here. I'm happy with it, just wondering if before I spend a ton on getting it set if I should maybe look at exchanging it?

Only you can decide if the bowtie bothers you to the extent you should return it.

I will say that, based on your post, you obviously do notice and do not like bowties -- although you also say you loved the diamond upon receipt, there is already a bowtie issue based on your reaction to hearing your local jeweler's comments.

Personally, once I am wondering if something specific about a stone (color, shape, performance, whatever) is an issue to me such that I may choose to return it, I personally am best served by returning the stone for refund, because I learned if I keep the stone the issue will keep rearing its head in a negative way -- but that's me.

There are lots of diamonds -- no need to settle if this one doesn't meet your preferences.

And here are some photos. I feel it’s way worse in video?

I'd exchange or return it. I can clearly see the bow tie. Which vendor is it? Shocked that a reputable vendor frequently discussed here could outright deny seeing a bow tie. This is a vendor I'd like to avoid....

I agree the bowtie seems readily apparent in various viewing positions, and returning it is probably your best option.

I also agree that a reputable vendor, especially one on notice of your dislike of bowties, would represent this one as having no-to-neglible bowtie ...

Have you already checked out the inventory of August Vintage cushion diamonds on Distinctive Gem's website? This 0.888ct H-VS1 AVC is 6 x 5.47mm (versus the 7 x 5.49mm of the 1.03ct elongated cushion you posted) -- very unlikely to have a bowtie -- perhaps worth seeing in person? https://www.distinctivegem.com/coll...vs1-august-vintage-cushion-brilliant-74113927

It honestly doesn't bother *ME* that much, my main concern is if it's significantly devalued because of it? Other than personal preference for some to avoid it, what effect does this bow-tie have on the stone? The stone is really, really pretty in my opinion, but if this bow-tie is that frowned upon by others that does bother me a tiny bit. BUT -- I think if I got a fair value and it is still worth what I paid, I can get past it as I don't personally see it as flawed.

I was looking for a chunky (would have preferred an OEC or Old Miner), elongated (but not too oblong) stone with a depth of less than 60% since it will be made into a necklace and I don't want the dreaded "flip" to constantly happen and the setting I'm dreaming up will make that somewhat difficult with a deeper stone. This stone checked all the boxes. I have never had an H color stone and I surprisingly find the warmth so dreamy!

For a 1.03 H VVS1 w/ VG polish, G symmetry, faint fluorescence cushion brilliant what's a fair value?

It's a beautiful stone, and it speaks to you. It's a personal. I don't think people are going to examine your stone and say BOWTIE.

The presence/absence of a bowtie in a fancy diamond has very little effect on pricing -- carat/color/clarity/cut/dimensions have far greater effect on pricing.

So if you are defining "value" to mean "price," and you believe the price you paid for the diamond is reasonable, you are good to go.

If you are using "value" and "devalue" to mean "would others want and pay for this stone" that's where people's personal preferences come into play -- like, would I buy a stone with a readily visible bowtie for myself? No, I would not.

If I was your real-life friend/family member and I saw a fancy cut diamond on your finger and it had a bowtie, would I think and tell you it is beautiful? Yes, I would. Would I point out the bowtie? No, I would not.
