Great photo. love the stone.

Now I have removed the colored objects from the set up.
The light source is now just a clean large flat white surface.

Instead of a huge black 3" diamneter lens one inch from the diamond (which blocks the light and reflects black in the diamond) there is now a large white surface with a 1/2' diameter hole.
Remember the lamp is BEHIND the diamond shinning towards the white cardboard.

You get this nice soft even light.
I have NOT turned on the LED headlamp thingie for specular highlights yet.

Plus, cardboard is free.

I focus on that point where the windmills meet.

Now I turned on the LED light source for a few specular highlights.
More would be better but the diamond is so close to the white board I can't get the LED tingie in there.

Here is that LED headlamp thingie.
It is $25 at Home Depot.

Very interesting.

I really enjoyed seeing your setup, thanks for posting that. Other than the LED, what are your other light sources?

This is the light source.
It is behind the diamond.
It is pointing at the white cardboard, which faces the diamond.

There is a small hole in the white cardboard and the camera lens is behind the hole.
The point is to create a large flat even source of light that is interrupted by the smallest-possible hole for the lens.

All the colors in the first pic came from colored objects placed between the diamond and the hole.

The camera lens is behind the cardboard.
When in use push lens against cardboard.

Thanks for the extra pics, Kenny. I knew that lamp was your light source, I was just wondering what type it was - standard incandescent, Reveal, CFL, etc. And when you use the LED light, do you turn off the black lamp, or is the LED in addition to that light?

The bulb is CFL, 5500 K, 14 watt from Home Depot.
It was the primarily light source in all three pics.

The last asscher pic is the only one with the LED which only made a small difference because it could only shine from off axis (from the side).
