If anyone is still interested... I became concerned that the five stone with six prongs on each would be a little busy, especially as I lean more toward very simple settings. He made a modified Tiffany for me, with a slimmer/more tapered band. I do love the simpler aesthetic.

In one version there is a single prong on the end stones, but the end prong is a claw and the shared prongs are tabs. In general does it look weird or unbalanced? If it doesn't look weird, what kind of prong should it be?

The other version has two prongs on the end stones so they would be all tabs, and the band is overall slimmer and more tapered than the Tiffany, but I'm back to worrying everything looks squared off.

I would love y'all's opinions and insights. I am way out of my wheelhouse. I supposed it I hate the setting I can always change it after a year or so at a loss, but I'd love to get it close to right the first time.

Thank you!

I have taken a couple of quick pics of my Memoire five stone band. Each diamond is .40 and the ring is a 5.5. Hopefully you can see in the pics that the ring doesn’t end with prongs but rather a solid piece of platinum that butts up to the yellow gold shank and the last diamond. It is ultra comfortable and there is no pinching or pricking with end prongs. That would be my only concern with the prong or prongs on the end; otherwise, it just depends on which aesthetic you prefer. Thank you! That is extremely helpful. My stones will be 0.4 but on a 6.5 ring. Yours each certainly look round and not squared off, very reassuring!

Yes, and that size difference will probably make a difference in terms of where the diamonds end on your ring finger. That can give more room for prongs on the end. The Memoire band is low and curved so it really sits comfortably on the finger and is the reason I went with it. Which of the two options are you thinking you will go with for your ring?

I tend to overthink things and when I get lost, I go with classic. I suppose classic is classic for a reason? I think I’ll go with the two prongs on the end stones. I’ll definitely get a wax first. Thank you for your thoughts and for sharing your experience on this type of ring!

I love classics too - you generally can’t go wrong with them.

Is there a reason why the one prong at the outside stone can't be a tab like the others? Just wondering why the difference?

I asked and he said he could do it “rounded” like the others but it might not be as secure. I’m not sure if that refers to the single prong in general or the shape of the prong. My three stone has single claw prongs on the end stones and it seems plenty secure. I definitely don’t want to baby it, and I’m right handed and this will be a right hand ring, so maybe it does need the extra security?

Are you sure these prongs you are calling "tab" arent just rounded shared prongs? The typical tab prongs looks something like
the following picture. To me, it looks like you are doing regular shared prongs. Is there something different that makes them "tabs" that I'm not seeing in the CADS. Did DK call them tabs?

He did not and you are correct. I called them that but that sure isn’t what they are. I suppose I understand a rounded share prong works between the stones, I don’t really understand how a rounded prong holds the outside stone. But that’s what the classic Tiffany has so I guess it works?

Ultimately my modified version will have a more tapered and slim band/shank and the shared prongs are a bit more pinched together to give stones a more round look. Is that what I have in the CAD?

For a work-horse ring I like the style that MissGotRocks posted for the end stones (a platinum bar rather than prongs) - comfy and a little more protection for the edges.

That makes sense. It’s why I eliminated the u-prong and the trellis settings when first exploring the idea. The stones were higher and the girdles exposed. I definitely want each stone to be secured and protected. Thank you.

It looks like they have the prongs pinched in between the stones so you see more roundness. I would verbally (well, in text) tell them
you want to see the rounded outside curves of the stone just to make sure you've made your point.

Do you mean even more so? In the CAD with the single end prong is the latest where I asked for pinching in, and it definitely looked more scalloped compared to the one with the double end prongs. Should I ask for more? I worry it becomes more like a single prong look. My plan is to ask for top image but with two prongs on ends.

No, no... Don't ask for more pinching. Seems like you may have discussed enough. Just wanted to make sure that DK knew that that was the look you were going for.

I prefer the single prong finishing off the last stone. Gives it more of a finished look in
my opinion. However, 4 prongs is good too!

Ha! I like the single prong too, but got confused bc it was a different kind of prong, though he said it could be a round prong too. I also like it bc it complements the single prong on either side of my butterflies.

Then I got confused about more security with the two prongs.

I can talk myself in or out of either option quite easily. It's going to be a nail biter to see what I go with.
