New friend at work has some goodies!!

G'day mates!!

Just recently at work there has been a new guy start, he's originally from Bangladesh and actually knows some of the classic rock and heavy metal bands that I listen to so he has been good company for me. We've worked a few shifts together (our team works 24/7) and he saw me browsing PS and other gem-related websites, so we started talking - turns out he was a gem enthusiast who collected stones and would often go to Burma to fossick and mine jewels with Topaz being his favourite.

He let me know that he had found a large cab grade ruby rough and had it faceted when he was in Burma, tonight he brought it in to work for me to have a look at. Although I can't confirm it, he has indicated it is 50 carats. The color is much more purple (inside an office at 11pm) than what you can see in the pics and he stated it has not been treated in any form. He said he is happy to share this with the PS collective, it's not insanely high quality or anything but I love the look of it.

He said he also has a 20 point Pink Diamond he will bring in to show me if he can find it - he keeps losing it around his house!! I'm keen to see that!!

That is so cool! I would love to see more pics of anything else your friend shows you. I must admit that I am a little bit jealous because I have nobody IRL that is interested in gemstones so I will have to live vicariously through you

I'm in a similar position where none of my friends like it either, although my new work colleague isn't the only person who likes colored gemstones; a couple of the ladies I work with here also love gems. Most people I know are either fishermen or fellow long-haired heavy metal musicians, so it's not something that comes up in every-day conversation for me either!

I never thought I would see a 50 carat sapphire of any kind, so this makes me very happy

Yeah I wanted to get some pics of it in natural light and see what the colour is like, but unfortunately we're both working graveyards so that's not an option at the moment hahaha.

Haven't been yet, I'm going to one as soon as my current music commitment is fulfilled as I've got a gig coming up at one of Melbourne's trendiest bars. We're getting paid big money to do it so it's 2 rehearsal sessions per week until I do the gig. Once that's done I'll be going to one of the club's meetings.
