It's definitely eye clean, and quite a flashy number. Will work on some quick pics and more tomorrow! Squee!

Well, I'll just wait here until the RL pictures show up. :read:

It looks very bright! Does it have a yellowish cast or is it just my monitor?

Wow, it looks like it's going to sparkle big time.

I can't decide about the yellowish cash, sometimes it looks like it has a hint of yellow, sometimes blue. But I don't know what it looks like in daylight yet...but it's definitely a sparkly one! ANd my biggest colored stone yet!

It looks more yellowish in the photos, it's just iphone + gross yellow indoor lightbulbs. :( Doesn't do it justice, but it's still gorgeous. So these will have to do for now until better daylight pics tomorrow with areal camera!

Setting ideas?

Gorgeous! I love it!

Aren't greens the worst colour to photograph: I have a beautiful peridot, a lovely shade of apple green, that always come out as a murky green.

It's a big 'un alright! I love the cutting on it but can't really get a handle on the colour because it looks different in all of your photos! Is Gary's picture true to life?

Just a thought but how about green gold?

Gary's photos are true to life...sort of. The stone is definitely more saturated than I was expecting, I get the impression the pictures look less saturated due to how bright and reflective the stone is and the fact that Gary's photo set up involves bright lighting.
Oddly enough the picture most representative of the color is probably the profile shot..

As Lady D has said photographing green gems is a nightmare. Do you have strong sunlight where you are at the moment? It's only in that light that I can get anywhere near the right green to show! In the profile it looks much more minty than Gary's photo.

Nah, it's 9pm right now, but it's certainly a pleasant surprise that it's mintier than I was expecting! And that's even in yellow indoor lighting.

When I saw the pics without reading, my first thought was, "oh, sweet chrysoberyl". It didn't strike me as a green grossular garnet but as you said, you had a hard time trying to photograph it. We'll see what tomorrow brings.

While it looks very well cut and sparkly, I think it has the color that hasn't decided what it wants to be when it grows up!

Gorgeous stone, MTG!!! I know that tone can be a tricky one to capture, but I think what you've shown us... tells us you found a FANTASTIC grossular garnet!! I love that faceting pattern - chunkiness equals yumminess, IMO!

I'm a sucker for a 3 stone -- that's what I'd lean towards, but set E/W, not N/S. What are you thinking of when you look at it on your hand?

This looks like a beautiful stone -- your photos appeal to me much more than the original one. The cut and sparkle, my goodness!

Ok, it's morning!

So that means sunlight! Apologies in advance for the dusty/smudgy stone, I'm a big scardy cat about washing unset gems :/

It does have a small spray of bubble type inclusions on one end, but it's really not noticeable by the naked eye, so it doesn't bother me. ;)

Mmm, love the high crown.

And it just absolutely glows when in the shadows.

With some other minty friends, it's definitely more yellow than the barry mint which is distinctly more blue. The other stone is a asscher cut "leuco" garnet from Peter Torraca.

And since I"m on a green garnet roll, here is my other unset garnet, a lovely lush tsav that I just can't get to photograph well! SIgh...

It also has the nice high crown that I love

With my "holy grail" tsav from Barry which for the life of me I can never take a fair photo of!!!! The color is very deep, but my camera just translates that into darkness and flatness ...grrr

Ok, enough trying to photograph greens for today. Oof!

Oh my oh my oh my It's SO pretty in daylight! That big sucker is a cameleon. I really really like the cut & the inclusions give it personality. Do you have plans for it yet?

MTG, I'm all kinds of shades of green to go along with all your yummy greens! =) =)

It really is a chameleon. The color is so light and the stone is so bright that it tends to pick up whatever colors are around. And the cut is a nice break from my usual barry rounds and ovals, lol. No setting plans, I think I"ll take my time with this one...though I might see if I can pick up a temp setting just so I can enjoy it a bit.

If you like it, it sounds like Gary has more of the material around...lol.

MTG- THAT IS AMAZING in the sunlight!!! oooh, what a fantastic stone!!! It really has quite the dramatic effect when placed between your other set green stones - the asscher almost looks colourless and Barry's stone becomes very blue based. Interesting!

Gorgeous stone - love that colour!! Seeing it in the sun, I think YG would really enhance that brightness and bring out the fresh 'spring' colour it seems to show.

Yummy!!!

Hmmm. On closer inspection it might be going back. Some of the inclusions apparently break the surface like little pock marks. :errrr:

MTG....if you really love the stone (aside from the 'pock marks') really think about it--Ive been after 'the perfect' mint for a long time. With that cutting, size, price, and a color that you love, I'd probably look past the inclusions--and I am not one for tolerating inclusions. I dont see any there in the pics that would make me want to return the stone. Just my opinion....

On the other hand, if they distract you, and you'll focus on them..then, yeah..Id return. I just dont see that...

I dont think theres any durability issues, but I am only going by pics.
