Hi, my name is Michelle and I''m a Lady in Waiting
My boyfriend, Nathan, and I have been dating for just over 2 years (our anniversary was in March). Here''s the story!
I was working in a coffee shop and he would come in at night and order the same thing every time, a medium Earl Grey tea. Unfortunately, I worked the morning shift! But my friend who worked the night shift would tell me every time I saw her about this super nice guy who came in at night and ordered the earl grey tea. Once he even brought in cookies for them (homemade cookies!). For a long time I thought that he had a crush on my friend because he only seemed to ever come in at night on her shift. We started peripherally hanging out because anybody who''s ever worked in a coffee shop knows that if you''re nice to the baristas, you get on the short list of friends pretty fast. On St. Patrick''s day he was down at the bar that we all hung out at after work as part of a huge group of friends and as the night wore on, the group dwindled down until it was just me and him talking at 2AM.
He said: "I have some apple pie at my place. It''s not pie I made, but my mom made it for me, would you like some?"
Me: (3 whiskies deep) "SURE! I LIKE PIE!"
So I went back to a relative stranger''s place for apple pie drunk at 2AM on a night that I had to open the coffee shop the next morning at 5:30AM.
However, as a true testament to his manners, I had a delicious piece of apple pie and then he walked me home to my apartment. It was perfect, except that my alarm didn''t go off the next day because I forgot to set it when I got home, and my manager called the police because I wasn''t picking up my phone and I had last been seen with A STRANGE MAN! Fortunately, the officer was a friend of mine and went to MY apartment and rang the buzzer until I picked up instead of busting down Nathan''s door first!
We decided to start dating soon after that (our first *real* date was sushi and 28 Days Later) and it''s not everybody who can say their first date ended in a police investigation.
People who see us out and about assume we have been dating a lot longer than we really have, due to our comfort level and mannerisms with each other. It''s gotten to the point where my co-workers, friends and even family members are like WHEN IS HE GONNA DO IT ALREADY? However, Nathan has started making noise about marriage and even went so far as to ask me my ring size, so I''m hoping sooner rather than later!
Anyway, that''s my terrifically long story. Thanks for reading!
Cheers,
Michelle
