Hello LIWs!

You should know I''ve been lurking for some time, every time I ''google'' search something engagement or wedding related, your forums pop up.

The more I read through, the more I decided I wanted to become a part of this community! There is something about knowing other people have the same thoughts/feelings/anxieties, etc. that you do that is so comforting...so I joined this afternoon :)

My story, if you''re interested: My SO and I have been dating since high school (which would make this New Year''s Eve our 10 YEAR anniversary!). We took a little break during undergrad when we started to grow our seperate ways (we were at the same school) for about 1.5 years, which was so necessary. We had a chance to explore our lives independently, as we literally did not talk or see each other that whole time! Then, we randomly and naturally fell back into a relationship together just over four years ago. We moved in together 2.5 years ago.

We made a big move last summer together to Detroit for both of us to pursue grad school after he finished undergrad. He is starting his second year of law school in September, and I am starting my second (and final!!) year of grad school this fall as well (I commute to Ann Arbor, though).

Although we have spoken frequently of marriage (I mean, come on, we''ve dated FOREVER) the discussions have turned more serious in recent months. We plan to purchase an e-ring online, and started the search in May. As we are both full-time students, money is tight. So, we decided a simple solitaire with a smallish, high-quality diamond would be perfect. We can always "upgrade" later for an anniversary or something. However, I doubt I''ll want to - I''m a simple gal! I am a big fan of the cushion cut, and that''s what we''re going for (.75-.9 c, probably).

So, I picked out what I liked, and emailed him the wish list. Now, I''m on pins and needles waiting! We share a bank account and pay all expenses jointly. I keep wondering how he expects to buy a ring if I can see our bank account! He says he has it all figured out....

He said last week it would be "within the next lunar cycle" and then when I told him lunar cycles were 30 days (come on, how do you not know that? I suppose as a female, I am more in touch with those things) he said "oh, then nevermind." But then he wouldn''t tell me how many lunar cycles! Grrr...

I think he was thinking "seasons." As in, it will happen before the first day of fall. We shall see!

I hope so, since this fall will be crazy with school, and we are thinking next December. We could actually get a bit of planning in before school starts, which would be awesome! And I can''t WAIT to refer to the man I love as my fiance instead of "boyfriend." THAT is getting old!

Ok, I''m blabbing on....I''m looking forward to waiting in solidarity with all of the lovely ladies on here and getting to know you all better!

Thanks for reading my story and for providing such an amazing group!

Welcome to PS!

Glad to see another Detroit area girl on here! :)

Maybe once your day comes (whichever lunar cycle it may be!) we can start swapping reception location ideas!

10 years is a loooooonnng time, it has GOT to be coming soon, girl!

A big welcome to you ash! My boyfriend and I will be going on 10 years this July as well! I must agree with you too, Im kinda getting tired of calling him my boyfriend. Id like to call him something more "official" lol!

Thanks!

I hope it''s coming soon!

Yes, it''d be fun to exchange metro Detroit ideas! We would LOVE to get married in the city, but our whole family is from Saginaw, so we''d likely do it there.

Either way, we would def. do engagement pics in the city (we live downtown, and love it) and would probably use a Detroit photographer and maybe flower person, too. Plus gowns, etc.!

Ok, I''m getting ahead of myself... BTW, I''ve loved your posts on what to do to get your mind off the engagement! I, too, have a treadmill addiction, and am even running in the Detroit half-marathon to get myself something to train for! You could try it, too!

welcome!!!!!

We are living in Ann Arbor, and who knows where we''ll end up getting married. Somewhere between here and Downtown Detroit, for sure!

Wow. Half marathon. I don''t think I''d survive that! I have terrible knees -- I barely make it on the treadmill! I think my body would hate me for it! lol. That''s quite a feat, though. Good Luck with that!!

Are you going to grad school at U of M?

Haha, yeah I walk a lot of it, though. I did a marathon with my SO last January, and it was a blast, but quite painful

I am at U of M! I''m in the Social Work and Public Health schools...you''re in school, too?

Yeah, I''m wrapping up my bachelor''s at EMU right now. I''ll be done next April! Can''t wait!! How are you liking Ann Arbor/U of M? Did you undergrad at U of M also?

I absolutely LOVE Ann Arbor, though. I wish EMU was set up the way U of M is. SO and I spend at least one night a week just wandering around on Main, walking over to State to get some Ben & Jerry''s ice cream, and we usually make our way through the Diag at some point. We are excited to buy a house here after we get married!

So cool! I love Ann Arbor, totally amazing town - lots to do, culture, arts, etc. Campus is gorgeous, I sometimes just wander through the Diag and marvel at the buildings and busy-ness of the students bustling through...

No, I did undergrad at GVSU, near Grand Rapids. Lived there for a couple of years after undergrad, then when he got into law school in Detroit and I was accepted at UM, we decided to make the move together. We LOVE Detroit, so much fun! LOTS of possibility for great date nights: Tigers games, cool restaurants, the Opera, DIA, etc.

I graduate in April, too!!! Yay! It''s so hard to focus on school and other things when sort of "expecting" a proposal sometime fairly soon! Hence, the treadmill, and now, PS! haha! He isn''t done until 2010, so we have been throwing around Christmas break 2009 as a possibility...maybe even New Year''s Eve!

You and I can get on each other to go do our schoolwork and hold each other accountable when all we want to do is be distracted thinking of weddings!

Good Luck trying to keep me accountable! I''m sooo ADD when it comes to school work! Although whenever I start to get carried away with obsessing, I try and get some studying done.

BF and I want to get married October 2010, so he has until December 31 @ 11:59:59 2009 to propose! lol.

Detroit is pretty awesome -- too bad it has such a horrible reputation!

Well, again, welcome to PS! Good Luck!! :)
