Hi everyone! Thanks for looking into my post! I’m new here and new to colored gemstone in general. It’s about my graduation and I want to buy myself a piece of jewelry. I was thinking about a teeny tiny diamond or a slightly bigger pink sapphire as I love light pink very much!

Then I came across this pink sapphire loose stone, it’s 0.65ct. I know for colored gemstone the brighter the color is the more value it would possess. However, I do have a very limited budget and I actually like this color instead of bubblegum pink, just my personal reference. So apart from the inclusions, there is still one problem as it’s been cut too deep. The dimensions are 4.5*4.4*4.2, so very very deep…

Can you guys please give me some advice on whether I should get this stone and what are the problems if it’s going to be sit very high on the ring setting? Or I should skip the whole pink sapphire idea and just purchase a 0.30ct diamond instead? Thanks a lot!

Can you let us know what your budget is? And yes agree that the color is a brownish pink based on pics.

Yes, please let us know your budget for this project.

Agree that the sapphire you posted is a "pass" based on color (pronounced grey/brown tint) and cut.

Not sure this is within budget nor whether you are open to Spinels, but this is a lovely pale warm pink Spinel with a wonderful cut

Yes I’m looking for any loose gemstone or diamond around AUD 650 (USD 500). I have only checked Blue Nile and James Allen so far as it’s quite expensive to get it set to a ring here in Australia and they have affordable setting options.

Thanks for the reply! The Spinel does look amazing! I like the color! Unfortunately I’m in Australia and they don’t ship outside the US. And it’s above my budget. Sorry for not providing my budget

With the stone as deep as the WxL, I am concerned it might need a custom setting, which will blow your budget out of the water completely.

Thanks for the reply! Yes for the brown/grey hint color and the depth it’s definitely a pass for me now

I was eyeing this one for myself, but decided not to buy any more loose gems

it has an interesting cut (Old European Cut) and I thought the color was lovely!

There is also this one, its a very pretty color to me, it’s much smaller and “sleepy” meaning it has a milkiness to it from inclusions. If you want sparkle, this one won’t be for you

This one is also a little over budget and has some inclusions, but I love the color and the cut is flawless

I like both of these options !

I really like that OEC also. But I don’t know if OP is looking for a princess cut given her example. I think that maybe OP should look for complete rings on Etsy etc. because as someone else pointed out if you buy a loose stone and then try to find a setting to fit that can be a difficult task especially given the budget.

Yvonne from etsy was at the Denver gem show as was Desertrose_gems on IG. I would definitely check with them and see if they have any new small, soft pink sapphires.

Oh yes, that makes sense. I was curious if these would fit in a stock setting, like this (it depends on which stone is chosen and a jeweler needs to be consulted):

Or this

Well done, @Cerulean! I hope OP will consider other shapes because those are great finds - gentle pinks but with no significant grey/brown tones. OP: even if these are not the shape you seek, let us know if this is getting closer regarding tone and hue?

I have a soft spot for pale pink stones - I have stockpiled favorites

I have my heart set on one that’s far out of my budget so happy to have others buy my pickings!

Wow thanks for providing me those! I really do like them! I’m loving each cut in baby/light/pale pink!

Yes I do consider other shapes and what @Cerulean provided are really pretty and closer to the tone I would want!

Hi, also in Australia.
I can recommend Ivy & Rose as I’ve bought a number of items from them. You won’t find a similar setting for such reasonable pricing here in Australia. You can also send them your gem for them to set. Thats what I did. I think setting was $75 US.
There are also Etsy vendors who do settings as well. I bought a very modestly priced (under $100) sapphire and had the setting made for around $800 Aust. That’s a good price for an 18ct gold ring, nice little diamonds, setting and delivery.

Thank you so much your ring looks fantastic!!! I’ll definitely check them out!

What’s your total budget for the whole shabang? I am watching some lower priced pink sapphire on eBay.

Isn’t it lovely? It’s like the perfect petal pink! I honestly think the inclusions won’t be obvious IRL either

Agree it’s nearly perfect for a pale pink sapphire, I also don’t think the inclusion would be a problem. And let’s look at the cut!

*** Update!!! ***

Thank you all for your incredible replies and suggestions! I decided to order a 0.5ct princess cut diamond ring and finally got my ring today! Here are some photos of it, it’s really hard to take pictures of diamond!

The diamond is a 0.5 carat princess cut in color K, vs1 clarity (feather, pinpoint and indented natural). VG in polish and symmetry with faint fluorescence.
I know the cut and color aren’t great, but I was thrilled to find a 0.5ct within my budget so I gave in K color is actually not visibly yellow to me, maybe faint fluorescence gives it kinda whiter look and I’m not color sensitive.

I got it from Blue Nile with 14k white gold very basic ring setting. The ring costs AU$1030 after bank wire discount, roughly US$764.

Thank you again for offering this lovely and friendly place to share ideas! Looking forward to seeing more stunning pieces!
