new project and first colored stone project. i bought a 5mm demantoid garnet and cos its quite small i think ill make some stacking rings with other bright stones. i originally wanted to set them in high karat gold but kept delaying imagining the cost. now im thinking of setting them in silver. I'd sometimes wear one or a few and mix up the color combinations. any ideas or suggestions for stones or setting style let me know.

my color and setting inspiration photos ( from ps'rs sorry i haven't saved you names only your lovelies)

also thinking a hot pink, a bright orange, a darker blue, maybe a purple. I'm also sourcing a bright opal. so basically prime examples of different colors but in teeny tiny sizes. any thoughts?

For stacking rings I would probably do silver with high carat gold bezels. That way it keeps costs down but you still get a very modern look. Since you have green, blue and yellow I would probably lean towards a neon pink to make everything pop. If you do purple I think the stack will have a more subtle look.

i only have the dematoid garnet at the moment! all the other pics are inspiration pics. id love to have a rainbow to pick n choice from :P

Silver with high karat gold as suggested by SB is a wonderful choice to make it budget friendly. I caution you to find a highly skilled bench to bezel set your demantoid though. They are the softest of all the garnets and will chip very easily. Another thing that will make your search difficult is finding strong colours in small sizes. The colours you've shown are all top quality and it is easier to find non-stacker sized ones because those stones have enough depth and material to concentrate the colour well. It isn't an impossible task but expect the search to take months, if not years, to get such quality in stacker size, especially if you are limited to round shapes.

interesting... i'm not limited to rounds i'm definitely open to any shapes. i guess i was thinking that being this is an awkward size, too small for solitaires, too big for mele i thought vendors might have some good stuff lying around. i know there is a list of vetted vendors but any you would recommend for this?

At one time I was thinking of doing stackers with fancy colored diamonds- so I looked at a lot of stacking options. Although that project has been put on hold, one thing I noticed when looking at other stacks is that many of the heads are set quite low- so you always have a lot of space between the rings. My favorites were the stacks that had higher bezeled heads that allowed the bands to sit flush with each other. Also, the ones that used different shapes were really interesting to me. I'll look for some of my saved photos.

With coloured stones, it all depends on what the vendors have in inventory so you will never find everything you need at once place ala one stop shopping. The easiest sizes to find will be around 1 ct to 1.5 ct thereabouts for strongly coloured stones. At least, that is my general experience. Size as to what is best as a solitaire or stacker is relative.

Your Demantoid is beautiful, I think a similar sized yellow diamond would pair up beautifully. I like yellow and green, and a diamond will be able to keep up with your Demantoids hyper dispersion.

An FYI, that first bezeled ring belongs to BEG. :wink2:

LOVING your CS stacking ring plan!!! and especially if they would all be bezeled stones - IMO, they work the best as stackers. How about a variety of different golds with a suitable stone to compliment it? I really like your idea of different shapes too - especially mixing a trillion in there!

YG, RG, WG (or argentium silver) and chose which CS you desire, that would best be enhanced by which gold. HAve you seen DanielM's shop on etsy.com? I love the inspiration their rings provide!! And of course --- Freke is a MASTER at selecting CS settings with DanielM!!

Enjoy the hunt for different shapes and stones - what a fun project!
