Hi all- I am a long-time lurker and first time poster. I received my anniversary ring (band is being custom made as well) yesterday. I opened the box and panicked: it was so big. It is a Sapphire surrounded by diamonds from Leigh Jay in NY. I adore the ring but am a little self conscious wearing it due to how large it appears on my finger. If anyone has had a similar feeling upon receiving your ring, how long before you felt more comfortable with the size? Adding a picture of the band they are creating. Again, I love this ring-I have just always worn something simple and this is my anniversary/dream ring.44484BAE-D8C3-4154-B51C-0B50AB42C99B.jpeg

First, what a beautiful set you had made. Just lovely.

Second, well, sure, that's normal and very common! It really is a matter of just wearing it and getting used to the visuals and weight. It is a harmonious size with your hand, there's nothing ostentatious about it. Most people won't notice, and the ones that do will just see a pretty sapphire cluster. Before I had my anniversary e-ring made I wore a small, but pretty little antique ring- if I wore anything at all. My now ring center isn't huge by PS standards at 9x7, but it sure felt like a beacon! Beacon of red! See the red, there's a band too! Yes, it's red! for a month or two. I felt the same about another five carat spinel ring I have. You adjust.
Now I'm smooshing three bands with the e-ring. And I have hobbit hands.
It's more likely once you're here for a while to suffer from the opposite, diamond(gem) shrinkage syndrome or DSS.
Worry then

* Oh! Welcome to posting! Come on in, the water's fine!

Hello laurenmaywhite! Congratulations on your anniversary, and the absolutely gorgeous rings you are having made to commemorate such a special occasion.

I had a very similar incident when I had a wedding ring made with an 8.9mm OEC moissanite with a halo for my size 4 finger, from wearing my original e-ring (9x6mm CZ pear in a white gold bezel with a thin band) and the 7.5mm OEC moissanite solitaire I had made after that. Upon receiving the package, I ripped it open , put the ring on my finger, and immediately (in front of my husband) went "NOPE, too big, gotta send it back." He was not amused and told me I had to wear it for 6 months, and if after that amount of time I still thought it was too big, we could discuss re-setting or having the same setting remade for a smaller stone.

Took about 2 months for the ring to feel "normal", and literally no one cared about it or noticed but me. I occasionally get "oh, what a pretty ring" comments from patients, but only once has anyone ever commented on the size (aside from my mom), and that was at a wedding dress store where I purchased a dress for a future vow renewal.

Anyway, I would hazard that somewhere between a few weeks to a couple months is all it will take for you adjust. It's a beautiful, classic style. Hope you love and enjoy the heck out of it for ages to come!

Thank you!! This was reassuring! I love this ring and to me it doesn’t seem big but when I put it on my hand there is a lot more coverage than I am used to. It is vintage and I love that and the band will be made to go with it. If I experience shrinkage I cannot imagine the coverage I will need then

This is really, really beautiful. It looks just right on your hand.

Congratulations on your anniversary, and dream ring!

LOL @ the shrinkage... it is a very real thing. :)

Thank you!! My husband was watching me open the box and he said my face changed. I live my live in athleisure wear and feel ridiculous wearing anything but a band and a few stacking bracelets. However, I have always lusted after vintage sapphire rings that are somewhat ornate. So, here I am, extremely happy but also feeling self-conscious. I am happy to hear that this isn't uncommon and that I will adjust!

Thank you!! I love the set in your profile! I am sure in 6 months this ring will feel normal and who knows even small to me. The actual sapphire is only 1.5 carats and for a sapphire I feel like that is not overly large at all!

Lovely ring and I am a big fan of air gap/line halos and have a few myself. :kiss2:

The ring and the band do not look big on your hand to me personally, however, I am used to big rings myself.

I would suggest wearing them as often as you could, even when on your own at home so as to get used to their sizes.

The older I get, the more spare pennies I have to spend on blings.

I always have a bling wish list, and it now has bigger ticket items compared with the list from a few years ago.

Although I have small hands, they are chubby with fleshy fingers. I am also plus size and quite flamboyant. Small dainty jewellery do not suit me.

However, I have a selection of jewellery for day to day wear which tends to be smaller and plainer, compared with the pieces for special occasions which are bigger and fancier.

I bought a 1.19ct EC some years ago to celebrate my 40th birthday, and I found it to be too big to wear on a daily basis (I am in UK and 1.19ct is considered as big). Hence I would only bring it out and wear it for dressier events; and had a band made with a 0.47ct EC so that I could wear that everyday instead.

The large EC has been reset twice and it is now in its final forever setting with a mixed cut air gap/line halo that I had always wanted. The ring comes out for more formal and dressier occasions along with my better and larger pieces.

DK :))

Don’t worry, you’ll soon get used to your beautiful ring, then it’ll just feel normal. I went from nothing to Bella, and now I don’t even notice it when I wear it.

I just want to say, it’s beautiful! I hope you get used to it soon!

What a beautiful set! I also live in athleisure wear and teach Group Fitness at the gym. The minute I get home I wash my hands and the rings come on! Enjoy looking at that beauty in all different lighting!

Congrats and it’s a beautiful ring! It looks perfect on you, don’t worry. In time you may possibly start having DSS (diamond shrinkage syndrome) which is the total opposite feeling! I most certainly did and I know many, many others who have too lol!

It’s a gorgeous ring, go show it off :)

we need to go to lunch ;)2
the way to get used to that beauty is just to wear it

The ring is really beautiful!
I have similar issue, and my rings aren't even that big by PS standards and not very diamondy. I never tended to wear anything except for the jade pendant I wore since little. Then this year I got enchanted by CS and made a whole bunch of rings. For a while I just wore them at home to admire them and didn't feel "me" wearing them out, and didn't want my colleagues to think "huh she's fancy". But its just very different looking at them under sunlight compared with at home, so eventually I started wearing them, and it makes me happy to catch a glimpse of beautiful bling on my finger now and then.
I still have a couple that I've never worn to the office, but I will soon:) Really no one cared and I guess if it made me happy that's all it matters!

Beautiful ring! it looks right at home on your hand!

It's a beautiful, classic ring that looks great on your hand. No one on this website is going to tell you that the ring looks too large, lol. But it really doesn't - imo, rings begin to look gaudy when they take up virtually the entire width of your finger, and that is definitely not the case here. My own ering felt very large when I first got it (and it is large! It's a 2 ct on a size 3.5 finger!). But I love it, and I live in NYC, and there have been many times, not talking events, just normal PLACES where I can see that my ering has by far the smallest diamond of all the women in the room. I promise you will get used to your ring because the proportions are very good. Wear it with pride and enjoy!

Beautiful ring, set! Congrats on your anniversary!
the initial shock and overwhelming-ness of a new ring with more coverage than you are accustomed too…i get it. Bit the more you wear it…;)2

That's a classic, go-anywhere ring.

We are like you and sensitive to bling. That is very tasteful and elegant and looks like a family heirloom. Even a small diamond solitaire is blingier than this.

Nobody knows nuthin about colored stones! Even if it were a 5-ct unheated Burma, it would not be blingy.

It looks beautiful on you! The perfect size…and oh, so classic!

HI:

Classic and elegant. Looks at home on your hand! Congrats!

cheers--Sharon

It's a beautiful ring and I don't think it's too large at all! It's a classy-looking ring that looks comfy so wear it with pride as often as you can. As I got older, I stopped entertaining stones less than 3 carats because I can't see them naked eye!

You'll get used to the beautiful ring soon enough.

It is beautiful and looks perfect on you! Stick around here and you will see that others have said, DSS kicks in! LOL! Can't wait to see it with your band!

What a beautiful ring!
It looks very elegant, but perfectly at home on your finger, certainly has presence, but not too big at all!

I do find where I live that people tend to notice color stones with a prominent/floral type halo, just because they're less common (mostly diamond solitaires, delicate haloed diamonds, and some diamond 3 stones.)

I guess what I am sayin is; if you get more comments/looks than you were expecting just chalk it up to your beautifully unique ring and impeccable taste!

Looks just perfect on your hand, before you know it you won’t be so aware of the ring on your hand.
