Hi there,

New to the community, hi all! Have been searching through these threads and noticed how incredibly helpful and amazing everyone here seems to be. Was hoping to receive a second opinion about one of the diamonds I am currently looking at. Really need the second opinion as the diamond is located extremely far away from me, so I am not able to see it in person. Only able to rely on the pictures, videos, and certification.

Anyways, here goes:

Little background: Diamond is right at the TOP of my price range, but hits most of my boxes in terms of cut, size, etc... Looks a tad yellow for my liking, especially if it is going to be on a white setting, but I think this is just about the best I can get for the size I want and clarity. Forewarning, I know about the dislike and opposition to EGL certifications, even from USA... I ask that you make your second opinion based more upon the pictures and video, not as much on the EGL listed clarity/cut/etc. Feel free to give me your two cents, though! HUGE thanks in advance for ANY of your opinions. I am all ears as this is going to be one of the biggest decisions I will make in my life for a VERY special person to me.

Diamond:
  • Cut: Oval Brilliant
  • Weight: 2.5ct
  • Clarity: SI1 listed (to me it does check out as an SI1, little cloudy from slight inclusion but no dark inclusions/spots)...
  • Color Grade: H (as noted above, little worried this may be a little darker than H due to EGL, and may be a little yellow for a white setting. I would rather try to make it work, though, as the price jump for whiter colors is rough.
  • Proportions can be found in the certificate (attached). I am a bit worried about the higher-end crown and pavilion angles... But using pricescope's HCA tool it receives an "excellent" score of 1.4 (attached).
  • I can drop price in here if you all want, but didn't want to just blurt it out off the bat. Let me know if you need to make an opinion.

Photo (it is the diamond on the far left. I know there is a suuper slight bowtie, it doesn't bother me especially after looking at videos):

Videos:
Video 1 (Professional) (I can see the inclusions and see how they reflect, but I feel this will not be noticeable by eye and does not diminish the brilliance as can be seen in the second video... I am happy to ask for more videos (maybe another on the finger but closer)
Video 2 (on finger, natural sun) (it is the one on the bottom)

EGL Certificate:
EGL Certificate

Thank you all again in advance. I really appreciate any/all commentary you can give. Please let me know if you need any further information.

Hi, a couple of things.

1) the HCA Tool is only for round diamonds

2) An EGL H is probably a GIA J.

I'm not an oval expert, but I'm not loving any of these diamonds. What is your budget and preferred length/ width ratio?

I have an EGL H. and compared to my AGS I, it looks at least 2-3 shade darker than my AGS I and more yellow.

I ask because there are many talented prosumers on PS that can help you find well cut ovals in your price range.

Hello to you both and a huge thanks for the quick input! I agree about the yellow coloring, although I had my fingers crossed that it wouldn’t be the case (haha). For what I am looking for and my price range, I believe I’m going to be a pretty tough customer but I would absolutely love if I could have some extra help from any of the members here (either in finding another or referring me to some other sellers).

The diamond above FYI was sitting at $20,200.

I’m looking for the below, if possible:

  • Shape: Oval
  • Clarity: I would say that I am fine with any gem above SI2… preferably SI1. I know that SI2 is about 50/50 with being able to see the inclusions with the naked eye. Would definitely like a gem that you cannot see inclusions on. With my price range and the size of center stone I am looking for, I am sure my only options will be on the lower clarity side…
  • Price: $18,000-$20,000 is about my max with everything included, but I think I can push to $20,000-$24,000 if need be. Really want this to be special, so if there is a large gem size/cut jump for a few thousand more then I am open to the conversation.
  • Ring: White gold, so going to need a diamond that’s on the lighter side.
  • Size: Really hoping to be able to reach the 2.4-2.5-2.6 or more ct range. I know this is TOUGH with the price range I gave…
  • Dimensions: pretty much just looking to hit all of the fairly “normal” dimensions... a good L/W (1.35-1.5), good table, good depth, etc...

Again, I am fully aware that with my price range it may be tough. Nevertheless, I have full confidence that I (or we!) will be able to find SOMETHING in the range. That’s why I was hoping the diamond above was going to work out. Dimensions and cut look great. It’s just the color issue in my eyes.

Thanks again for your input. I am totally open-ears to everyone’s opinion and anyone’s commentary.

Unfortunately, It's pretty much impossible to find a well-cut GIA oval within your specs/size and budget. :(
(maybe now that I've said that somebody will prove me wrong!)

HI:

Not the carat weight you are looking for...but these are lovely ovals....

cheers--Sharon

It's hard to tell this cut from this video, but here is a G color 2ct diamond that faces up only 8% less than the 2.5 carat (see image attached)

This one doesn't face up quite as large but I love the look of the cut from the video and it's elongated which can make a diamond look larger to some: https://www.adiamor.com/Diamonds/2.00-ct-G-SI1-Excellent-Cut-Oval-Diamond/D50143806?rfr=search

I also like this one, again, faces up smaller (13% or so) but cut looks great, and it's a GIA H instead of EGL. https://frankdarling.com/diamonds/diamond-211434-27HK/

I am not sure why this diamond is so cheap...

If you like it, I hope someone with oval cut expertise can vet it for you!

That seems to be not that crazy of a price for a K, but the measurements make it face up more like a 2 ct than a 2.5 ct.

I just wanted to take a quick second to thank each and every single one of you for the incredible responses and for going out of your way to help me in my diamond search. The recommendations are amazing and I cannot wait to take a close look at each. I’m sorry for the delay in getting back to all of you, been an extremely busy weekend with some unfortunate family circumstances. Coming back here to see all of the recommendations completely brightened up my morning!! Thank you again, this community is so amazing. I’ll let you know what I think, feel free to drop in any more you see!!

My deepest thanks,
Harrison

Pretty typical oval ...I'd give it an 80/100. No new facets light up as the stone turns and its someone of an odd shape (to me). Pleasing
shape is subjective though.

Good facets are outlined and in the black region

For a better oval, when the stone turns you'll see more nice facets lighting up in the
black area blow. This one has no facets lighting up in that area. Facets just stay "mushy".

Watch this oval rotate and look for the nice facets coming out of the center as the
stone rotates.
