I received some white gold earrings for my birthday and they have a wierd yellow tinged spotting on them. Like water spots but slightly yellow on the surface. Faint but visible. They are polished to a high mirror finish. I tried just washing them with soap and water, but I''m afraid to try anything else. I''m going to take them to a jewelr to see if its just some residue, but I''m concerned that this problem could get worse with time. Anyone have any ideas on what it is?

Well white gold is plated with rhodium to make it look white, "white gold" often has a yellowish look to it in it''s "natural" state. It''s possible that it was a poor rhodium job and thus the yellowish tint of the WG underneath is coming through?

Might not be, but could be it.

I agree with Neatfreak. I had a white gold setting re-rhodium plated and it came back kinda spotty looking. If the jewelers rhodium isn''t clean, it can cause this. I would take them back to wherever you got them from and see if they can re-dip them.

thanks. this is disappointing. because we got them online I''m not sure I want to return and have then redone. I might just return them.
