My husband and I just returned from spending two incredible weeks in New Zealand and I wanted to share a few pictures of this beautiful country! First picture is a beach on an island in the Bay of Islands off the North Island.
Sundial, your pictures are fab. I remember flying into New Zealand and being in awe of the scenery before we even arrived. It''s a wonderful country and very quaint. Really glad you had a great time.
Thanks guys for putting up with my vacation pictures. I have many more of course, but this is enough to give you an idea what it is like if you haven''t been and to remind you what it was like if you have. It was just so pretty there that I had to share. I feel a little sad to be home. No big snow storms here in the southwestern US, but it seems so brown and drab after all that green (it is summer down there). We visited the Bay of Islands, the Lake Taupo area, the capital city of Wellington and a nearby sheep station, Christchurch, and Queenstown. We took the Tranz Alpine train across the south island and drove down the scenic west coast. My husband did great adapting to driving on the left. The Kiwis are lovely people and we met some other interesting vacationers from the UK, Florida, Australia, and California. The food was excellent and they really know how to prepare lamb. They produce some incredible sauvignon blancs and pinot noirs in New Zealand. We played golf, went trout fishing, visited some historical sites and museums, and took a boat tour, a winery tour, and a tour of an operating sheep ranch (or sheep station as they call them). The weather was a little unpreditable, but it didn''t slow us down any. Great trip!
Lisa tell your husband there is some great golfing in New Zealand. We played Wairaikei on the north island and Millbrook on the south island. I enjoyed it because the atmosphere was very relaxed and they didn''t make us play with anyone else. There are some world class courses there such as Kauri Cliffs, but my limited skills did not justify those hefty green fees! There is an article on New Zealand golf in the January/February Travel & Leisure Golf magazine. It is interesting to me how much that golf course in my picture looks like the Tamarron course near Durango, Colorado not far from where we live.
