newbie has a question

I am trying to decide between two different emerald cuts - the specs are pretty much in line with each other, but one is about 8 x 6 mm and the other is about 9 x 7 mm. I am trying to picture how they will look on my hand size wise. Is drawing out an 8 x 6 mm rectangle and a 9 x 7 mm rectangle on paper and then laying them on my finger a good way to get an idea of size? I just don''t know because the prongs have to be considered as well as the reflection of the stone.
