Just bought this yesterday . But it have 1 hole is it normal in emerald

It could be natural but dyed, synthetic or natural. I’ve never seen an emerald faceted like that however, and that leads me to think it’s some ornamental bead quality. Is it transparent?

It’s very low quality and that missing chunk is damage. It’s probably dyed as well. I would return it for a refund. It’s not worth any money and setting it might lead to more bits breaking off because the gem is full of cracks and flaws. It may not even be real emerald. The cost of testing that is about $75 but even if real emerald the quality is so low it wouldn’t be worth that cost.

It is transparent , its the back not the front

Ok, the emerald looks “more like a natural emerald” BUT a huge hunk out of the gem is a significant flaw. It probably means the emerald is full of fissures / crystalline flaws and that drastically reduces its value and suitability for setting into jewellery and then wearing it.

It's worth very little. You can find heavily treated emeralds like that on eBay for less than $100. I would return it.

Dang .... the seller said its matural tho:(2

Unfortunately, the others are right, just because a stone is natural does not mean it’s valuable.

I’m sorry this emerald isn’t the quality you thought it was.

It remind me of this emerald that @T L (or was it @DauphineMucha?) posted about in another thread:
https://www.gemrockauctions.com/auc...ombian-emerald-aaa-color-glowing-green-911299
Which looks beautiful in the sunlight but it has a similar dark spot on the LHS. Hard to tell it’s inclusions because of the glow the emerald has in the strong light.

Hopefully you are able to return your emerald for a refund, or if not, you’re able to enjoy its colour, even if it’s not the quality you hoped for.

Unfortunately some sellers say “natural” just meaning it wasn’t made in a laboratory. They often don’t disclose the invasive treatments the “natural” Gem has been subject to including heat treatment, beryllium treatment and flux/ glass filling. These treatments affect the gemstones value.
Any gemstone with damage, especially an actual chunk of the gemstone missing, makes the gemstones value plummet.
Your emerald is likely unstable, if one chunk has fallen out, maybe more will break off when the emerald is set. Maybe an accidental bump to emerald could cause it to break apart.
Unless it was really cheap (under $100) and you only want it as a specimen I would return it for a refund. I would not try and set and wear that emerald in jewellery because it’s likely unstable.

Ok then means i got ripped off hard :(

So if i want to use it as ring , can or should i cut it to smaller piece to remove the crack? Is that possible?

Seriously... return it ASAP! We can help you find something lovely. :wavey:

I hope you didn’t pay too much for it.

I'm not sure it will survive a recut. And I also honestly don't think it's worth the price of a recut. I would just take this as a lesson learned.

I am no expert in judging the quality of your stone but do wonder if you flipped it to see the pavilion and other sides at time of purchase.

If you did see it then and still liked it, I hope you were charged accordingly.

I don't know why, the 1st 2 images look to be very sci-fi or computer generated to me. Per @Bron357's comment, the last 2 look more emerald like.

Recutting is not really an option. You would be spending more money to lose too much size to remove the hole and it seems that the gem has numerous fissures and flaws so any attempt to recut could cause the gem to fall apart more.
It’s on the rear of the gem so it won’t be noticeable when set BUT the setter is going to need to take great care setting that gem.
And is it worth spending more money on a setting when the gem itself is of poor quality and may not “last”. Wearing it In a ring there will be inadvertent bumps and knocks and with an unstable gem, it could just fall apart.
I would put this purchase down to experience.
Then, let us know what your budget and emerald preferences are and we can look around for you and find something beautiful and worth buying and setting.

I would not recut it looks like an inclusions to me one where you would lose 3/4s of the size and weight of the stone with a recut so it's not worth it. You can't take it back so set it into a protective setting so it doesn't get bumped too much like a bezel or a halo or something with either metal or something protective around it and enjoy it, it's a pretty colour face up.

We have all bought stuff we have regretted, myself included.
