I'm currently looking for an OEC for an engagement ring. I've looked on GOG, JbEG, Fay Cullen, and Old World Diamonds. The biggest thing is that we have a limited budget. There is one on both GOG and JbEG that I like, but I'm unsure about them and I was hoping I could get your opinion on them, as well as help finding other options. Here are the GOG and JbEG ones I've been looking at:

My budget is $4500, I'm looking for something that is very well cut (I've seen some funky shaped OECs :knockout: ), clarity preferably SI or higher unless the I1 is awesome, and color range between H-J (I like warm stones), maybe a little lower if it's got a blue fluorescence. Now here's the hard part- I'm trying to get as close to 7mm as possible. So pretty much between 6.5-7mm.

Thanks!

both of those look to have very nice patterning - is the first one eyeclean to your specifications? You can call GOG and ask once you decide what 'clean' means to you.

If you're willing to consider an N you might ask for more info on this 1.9ct GIA N VS1 OEC here

I e-mailed GOG to see if I could get different pictures or maybe a video to see how noticeable it is. It looks like it's a white inclusion, but I can't really tell from that angle. I'm thinking that it's eye clean enough for me, and I think it's the one, but I'm awaiting GOG's response. So I figured in the meantime I'd look for other options.

I saw that one on eBay, and I really considered it, until I saw on the cert pics that there is no fluorescence.

hope the GOG reply is positive :))

re. fluoro - if you're looking for it to actually have a visible effect you'll probably want to search for a stone w/ strong+ fluoro, I understand that med can be a mixed bag

Me too! I'm really excited about it. I figure if it's just a white flaw, it shouldn't be too noticeable. But having such enlarged and detailed images make it look bad, haha.

Thanks for the tip!! I figured medium would've been sufficient to make a difference, but I guess not! :read:

Hopefully GOG will have good things to say about the diamond. If you go ahead with the purchase there is nothing to lose with the GOG stone. If the inclusion bothers you in person, then you can return it. If it doesn't bother you it's a good way to get the size you crave. If later down the road you decide you want something higher in clarity you can upgrade it since GOG has a good upgrade policy. I hope a diamond finds its way to you soon!

I was leaning towards them for this reason too. I'm sure I won't want to go any bigger than 7mm, so my mounting won't need to be changed, so it'd be a pretty easy swap for a higher clarity stone down the road if I ever want one. Ohhhh, such enablers you are! :wink2:
