Hi to all!

I'm a newbie in the gemstone market and I need help!

Just acquired a 67.17 ct star sapphire with an appraisal report from Nan Yang Gemological Institute (NGI) in Singapore. I'm just wondering approximately how much it would be at market value.

Here's the findings:

1. Size: 22.83 x 23 x 11.92mm
2. Shape: Round, cabochon
3. Color: Purple, opaque
4. Refractive index: 1.76 spot reading
5. Specific gravity: 4
6. Magnification: fingerprint, crystal, silk, growth zoning & repeated twining
7. No indication of thermal enhancement. the stone displays asterism
8. Other tests: pleochroism & fluorescence

The report didn't state the market value. Is this normal?

The fact that it is opaque makes it far less valuable if than if it were translucent. The strength of the star, body colour and straightness of the legs also play a role in the value of the sapphire. It is normal and expected that lab reports do not state the market value. Their function is to verify the stone and list its characteristics only. It is the appraiser's job to assign a value, be it a resale or replacement value.

Thank you, Chrono, for the information!

I've attached a picture but it doesn't show all 6 legs clearly. in reality, the 6 legs reach the girdle albeit thin.

Am hoping I did not get duped. I paid $1k for the stone.

I'm not sure how much such a huge stone is worth but $1000 isn't so bad. The star seems all right albeit on the skinny side. The body colour is rather dark though and opaque. What are your plans for this star? It seems impractical to wear.

Thank you! It makes me happy to know that $1,000 is an ok price. WHEW!

Maybe pendant with a long chain? I'm not actually sure what to do with it. Any thoughts?

Pendant or perhaps a gents ring. Guys like huge stars.

The only thing I can think off is a pendant because it's a huge stone. Although I like big rings, even this one is too big for me.
