Hello fellow ''Scopers. I''m so invigorated by the NFL SEASON that I took quill in hand and scrawled some verses dedicated to games I o''erglanced this week.

(Disclaimer: All iambic pentameter dysfunction is to be blamed on my mother, who made me listen to Bob Dylan - who apparently could not afford a metronome.)

***

Lions and Jaguars and Bears, oh my!
The NFL season''s a-going
Grilling and cheering and some people beering
and jeering and air horns a-blowing.

Patriot games, and the Colties competed
Chowderheads cheered Thursday night.
Vanderjagt got just the opp that was needed
But blew it and sailed it wide right (laces OUT!)

Ivan is bearing down fast on Miami
So they played the game a day early
Dolphins scored little and looked oh so brittle
The Titans make Ivan look "girlie" (no Schwarzenegger comments please)

Houston bows to the surprising Chargers,
The Falcons defeated San Fran
Joe Gibbs is back with his Portis attack -
Boss Hogg may STILL be "da man!"

Deion returning and juking and turning,
But Baltimore loses their show.
Denver''s young Bronco named Quentin is boffo
3 touchdowns and plenty to go.

The Tuna and star-heads fell to the Vikings
Culpepper threw five T-Ds!
Keyshaun''s debut was all cake and no icing
We''d much rather WIN, if you please! (can I get a Halleluja, sister Denise?)

Who else has a verse?

nice poem.. I was afraid that you were going to have typed out the annoying "coors light twins song" rip off that sportscenter does every week.. Nice to see something GOOD and original

I LOOOOVE Quentin Griffin. He is gonna have SUCH a great year! I have a fish named Quentin after him. My other two are John (elway) and Jake (plummer)

Trying to find a kiddie size Q jersy to fit me!

Melissa

Okay John.....you inspired this retort!!

From a “football widows” point of view

It’s grim the game is back anew

All weekend long he sits all day

And analyzes every play

The announcer’s voice fills every room

As loud as any sonic boom

And I might as well just disappear

Can’t compete with the TV and a bottle of beer

When the weekend’s over and relief is in sight

We get slammed again on Monday night.

wow...both the poems are great! i am still laughing. judi, you got it exactly right. john, the NFL poem is amazing...tho you didn't write about my raiders

These are so funny (Judi, you really crack me up!)! As a native San Diegan, I'm so happy the Chargers won! It may be the only game I get to see them win all season (sad, but true). What a great way to recap the games, JohnQuixote!

Thanks for the kudos.

Judi, I bow to your response (yes, many of those slings and arrows hit their mark, cruel prophet!)

Angel, I'd fancy the Raiders if they would do something more than losing a superbowl then rolling over for a whole year.

Researcher...Excellent. Congrats on the lightning bolts' win. Perhaps more prose again next week?
