My cousin's ex-wife (who is still close to my family) got engaged recently to what I understand is a rather rich guy. I saw her this weekend at the wedding of another cousin of mine, and she was sporting a diamond big enough to be a swimming hazard.
I didn't ask her for the specs but I did get a good look at it. I'm guessing it was at least 10mm across (probably 4-5 ct), G-H-I and eye-clean, but what really impressed me was the cut--it was one of the prettiest big diamonds I've ever seen, oodles of brilliance and a huge amount of fire. I asked her if it was a branded stone, but she had no idea what I was talking about. They apparently got it at a store in Denver that I'm not going to name but it's not a chain so I'm guessing it was just a well-cut non-branded ideal. So either her fiance did his homework or just got lucky. Either way his wallet is lighter by (I'm guessing again) close to six figures (the setting was nice too).
Just thought I'd share that with you guys.
