Are there anyone in here who knows how much paraiba tourmaline from Nigeria should cost? The only place on the internet I can find any for sale is on ajsgems, but they seem very expensive considering they are not "original" paraiba tourmaline. A 0.47ct. heated, eye clean stone, cost $495.
I think I read somewhere that such small sized light colored stones sold for about $300ct. at the tuscon gem show some time ago. So, has the prices just exploded for all paraiba tourmalines in recent years?

The price of each stone is different depending on size shape clarity, hue and tone. The price of copper bearing tourmaline has gone up in price. In the case of the original TOP Paraiba it has gpone up dramaticly.

Maurice

I have included a picture of the stone I was thinking about. It looks really beautiful, but still very small for the price I think

There was a thing in Towne And Country Magazine this month about them. The had a page of several of them from different sellers. They were unbelievable. They were pretty expensive. I can''t say much about it since that was the first I had heard of them. I did a google search and didn''t see much that looked interesting.

Could you give some examples on some of the prices?

I don''t remember specifics but the thing I liked the most was a cushion cut ring and I think it was like $200k. Tiffany had a ring but I can''t find it on their website.

would that be $300/carat to some ''in the business'' at tucson? most of us can''t get to the good prices because we''re not ''in the business''.

The proper name for what you are describing is nigerian cuprian(pariaba-type) tourmaline. To my knowledge, $300 /ct is a reasonable wholesale cost in the good to fine category under 1/2[$$)]ct. Brazillian pariaba can sell up to 4x that. talk about price explosion! Of course it's not so easy to be a wholesale buyer in a limited market, you may have to rely on retail pricing.

cherrypicked has a few of these... and the prices on them are well. High. Go check it out.
