My girlfriend is in love with a ring offered by Nikawa, but I cannot afford their prices, nor am I willing to simply take their word on a diamond. So I want to have this ring made by a Jeweler. My question is: Is this something most Jewelers would be able to recreate? Would they be willing to? I don''t know if these things can be copywrited or how it works. Can anyone recommend a Jeweler in the Dallas/FtWorth area who is really good?

Thanks in advance,
Dhorn

I tried to attach a pic, hopefully it will show up.

try posting this in rocky talky, you may get some more responses there.......
good luck!!

Looks feasible to me... the only catch with Niwaka is that most designs (this one included) are meant to work well with small diamonds and would become quite a hulk of metal if larger diamonds are used without some modification to the setting model.

Copyright... exists for jewelry designs but it doesn''t seem terribly effective - small modifications to a design do not even have to render to make a knock-off lawful. Since perfectly exact copies of anything are virtually impossible, not sure what exactly the copyright protects. The "look-alike" are ok even if their purpose is to substitute for the original: not a curtesy to the original maker but not something they can prevent by holding copyright either. At least as far as I know.

Counting the Tiffany knock-offs among Blue Nile jewelry... I am not sure why does any jewelr insist on copyrighting designs anyway. It seems rather futile

Does anyone have a Niwaka catalogue? I''m interested in the Wisteria engagement ring, but the website has no prices. I''d like to know how much it costs and what size center stone it will take. Also, I''ve heard alot about their steep diamond prices and $1500 setting fee. Is it possible to order the ring as a semi-mount and then take it elsewhere to get the center stone set? They seem to make this really hard...any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Like belle said if you move this post to rocky talky you''ll get lots more help. Beautiful design by the way!! Hopefully someone will be able to point you in the right direction in the Dallas/Ft Worth area. Good luck

I have their catalog but it''s the same as the one on line, no prices inluded. We looked at bands there and I can tell you that a simple, thin platinum band was about $900. You definitely pay a premium for the design but it''s not as steep as some other places and they make beautiful rings.

Thanks elepri! I finally got the catalogue and, you''re right, it has no more info than the website. My best friend lives in NY so I may have to send her on a scouting mission to check the store out in person! Thanks again for your help.

Well, there seems to be something alike in allot of places (including the DeBeers Bridal collection, more reason to make copies).

Still, the one at Niwaka looks particularly attractive. Until I found this one below:
