We''ve been going through music on Napster for a really long time and we''re having trouble finding music we want to use in our wedding. One of the main things we''ve been focusing on is trying to find something for the recessional. What do you think about 10,000 Maniac''s "These Are Days?" Here''s Natalie Merchant''s video, in case you''re unfamilar with the song:

I''m a huge Natalie Merchant fan, as well as big fan of Van Morrison and Sarah MacLachlan. I''m a little stuck in the ''90s I think, as this is when some of their songs were popular (okay, a little further back for Van Morrison). My friends groan when I mention these artists, since I play them all the time. It''s my wedding and I know we''ll play what we want but I also don''t want to be made fun of for being stuck in a time warp.

I think there''s a question in here somewhere...

What do you think about using the song I linked?

Do you have any other ideas? We''d like something more upbeat but certain songs that I''ve heard used aren''t exactly what we''re looking for. Sorry to ramble...anyway, ideas are welcome. Thank you!

How about:
It Had to Be You - Harry Connick Jr
Beautiful Day - U2
Crazy Little Thing Called Love - Queen
Happy Together - Turtles
The Best Is Yet To Come - Donald Lawrence &The Tri-City Singers
Somewhere Over the Rainbow - Iz

It''s your wedding day. It''s a GREAT song for the recessional. And your friends, if true, will only groan internally and understand that the day is about YOU and your FI and that their opinion does not MATTER one bit.

I think it''s perfect!

I love that song but the lyrics are not straightforward, and not easy to understands, so they would be meaningful only to those already familiar with the song. On the other hand, it's up-tempo an has a feel of celebration, so the music would work as a recessional whether or not your guests know (or listen to) the lyrics. So if you're looking for a song that has the right feel and is important to you, go for it. If you want the lyrics to add to your guests' experience, maybe not....

BTW, I hadn't seen that video before. EEEEK! Makes my hands and feet clammy just looking at her on that building!

''Goodbye, And Thanks For All The Fish''

I''m thinking more ''Rondeau'' by Joseph Mouret

I''m stuck in the same time warp as you, Zoe, so I''d go for it! We used Over the Rainbow/Wonderful World by IZ, but had a lot of 90''s songs in ye olde iPod for the reception too, including "Ice Cream" by Sarah M., and a bunch of others I can''t remember right now. And I''m sure not a single one of my guests remembers anything about what we played, but I sure do!

Pandora, there''s a song called ''Goodbye and thanks for all the fish''? How funny! Love the Douglas Adams books...

Thanks ladies!

I don''t think I''ve ever been to a wedding where the recessional had words -- it''s always been classical music. If we play something with words, is it typical to have the whole song played or does it fade out after a minute or so? I''ve never paid attention but now I''m wondering how it''s usually done.

I agree! We used Into the Mystic by Van Morrison for our processional and while some people were like "huh?" before our wedding day, on the day everyone said it was perfect!

We played a Rhett Miller (of the Old 97's) song for our recessional and everyone thought it was adorable. We just let it play out, but our "DJ" (our friend) faded it down a bit so we could talk to everyone.

It wouldn''t be my choice, but that''s the whole point. If you really like the idea then I think you should do it. I don''t think anyone would seriously mock you for it, and if they did...well, they''re an idiot anyway.
