I''m officially engaged!

And the proposal was... a little bumpy to say the least.

First, I was working at home yesterday, unwashed hair, no makeup, in my holey PJ''s, sweating my butt off, while my BF was supposedly out with his friends. Door bell rings and when I opened the door all bleary eyed, there was my BF''s bestfriend dressed in spiffy suit, limo driver hat (LOL!), with a corsage in one hand and a shopping bag in another. My reaction probably wasn''t what he expected, it was half shock and half annoyance that someone caught me in my crummiest moment (remembering the PS thread about this very thing!)

Luckily he had an hour for me to get ready and the shopping bag was a dress my BF sent over. I got ready, but by then the weather had turn for the worst and it was POURING out. When we opened our front door there was water up to above our ankles (with my heels on) so we had to walk through the water for about 20 feet (friend ruined his shoes). They had rented a Lincoln Towncar and we drove about an hour in pouring rain, and when we got there 2 other friends were there waiting to escort me to where my BF was waiting (with a cell phone as a flashlight as it was pitch dark).

So I walked into the closed park right by the river in pouring rain, and there was my BF by the picnic table with 4 torches and hundreds of candles (all gone out of course). He sat me down with a giant umbrella, as he kept on trying to relight some of the candles while telling me stories about how much we''ve been through together, and how we had to keep on trying just like he was trying to relight those candles. Then finally some of the candles were lit and he got down on his knees on wet grass and proposed.

And I cried because it was obvious he has put so much thought into this night, had worked so hard to make it perfect, and with the rain things just didn''t go the way he planned. He was soaking wet, candles had all gone off, I was all disheveled with the wind and rain, with my feet/shoes still wet from walking out the front door of my house. Yet it couldn''t have been more perfect. Neither of us are all that romantic so all of this was quite shocking for me, and the fact that he had done all of this in the worst of conditions made it even more special.

We danced in the rain, drank a glass of my favorite wine while watching the river and listening to the sound of rain, before we headed back to meet up with his friends who spent the whole day helping him set this up. Then off we went to a rooftop lounge in the city (it was midnight by then) where we met up with some more friends, and drank and danced until the wee hours of the night (or morning).

Definitely not the way I had envisioned this day to be, nor was it how my he had planned it, but this not so perfect proposal turned out to be the most perfect day for us and something we''ll always remember

That is really really sweet. My BF would have been like, "Ok, rain sucks, I'll do it some other time."

Congratulations! Do you have any ring pics?

(And don't forget to post that you're engaged on the list!)

Congratulations! I have to say, your FI is the most stubborn guy I''ve read about online to actually go through with this.

It sounds like something you would watch on a movie. Pictures Pleeaaase!

Oh babyblue I have tears in the corners of my eyes, how utterly romantic and wonderful is your now FI. Your story is so sweet congratulations to you both :)

Thank you FrekeChild. I couldn''t believe he went through with the whole thing either, I mean the bad weather was so unexpected (it was GORGEOUS the day before!) and we haven''t seen rain that bad in quite some time. He looked EXHAUSTED when it was done and was a bit cranky (

) but we ended up having a great time. Poor guy is sleeping next to me as I type this

As for the ring... I don''t have any pictures yet and I shouldn''t get too attached to it since we''ll be sending it back for repair. There was a little bit of discrepancy between the photo of the setting posted on the website and the final product. I''m now tempted to keep it as is though now that it''s on my finger, it''s really beautiful and the discrepancy is not that obvious IRL...

AWWWWW! I think the bad weather makes it even more perfect!!!!! He worked so hard to plan it all out and didn''t even let all of that get in the way!!! CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yay!!!

Wow! Congrats to you!! I think that is a great story, you''ll always remember it! It''s very sweet of him to go through all of that! Best of luck to you- can''t wait to see ring pics!

Choro72, he''s stubborn alright! I guess good thing I wasn''t there to knock some sense into him, otherwise we wouldn''t be engaged!

As for the pictures, I think one of the friends had planned on taking photos of us right after, but with the weather and everyone being a bit out of sort we never got any.

Deelight, thank you for your kind words. I was quite shocked, as he''s never been the one for this type of romantic stuff. It''s almost more perfect because things weren''t so picture perfect, that might have been a little out of character for both of us.

CONGRATS

It sounds like he put in so much thought and effort, and what a story you guys will have to tell!
Looking forward to seeing the pics!

Congratulations! It''s so sweet that he put so much thought and effort into everything.

That''s a great story! Probably the best I''ve ever heard. I love that he kept on despite the rain.

I really love that he went ahead with it in the rain. I''m picturing you guys out there, dressed up, soaking wet and it''s adorable. You''ve got to love a guy who will follow through on romantic plans no matter what.

Congratulations!

Aw that man was determined to get that ring on your finger - what a beautiful story! Congratulations to you both.

Oh wow, adorable! I think dancing in the rain after getting proposed to is pretty perfect, actually! Congratulations! However, you know we need some PHOTOS!

What a great proposal story. Congrats, can''t wait to see the pics!!!

What a cute story! I think rain (as long as it''s not a flash flood like some people have suffered from lately) sounds so romantic! I totally get you about the bummin'' look fear before a proposal. Good thing you had a chance to get ready. Did you know what was going on when his friend showed up? I would be so excited and probably unable to get ready! Can''t wait for handshots! CONGRATULATIONS!

Aww, that is the cutest proposal story ever! Seriously--for him to go through with all of that despite the pouring rain is so sweet. What a guy!

Babyblue, that is just precious -- your story made me teary! Congratulations to you guys!
