I''m officially engaged!
And the proposal was... a little bumpy to say the least.
First, I was working at home yesterday, unwashed hair, no makeup, in my holey PJ''s, sweating my butt off, while my BF was supposedly out with his friends. Door bell rings and when I opened the door all bleary eyed, there was my BF''s bestfriend dressed in spiffy suit, limo driver hat (LOL!), with a corsage in one hand and a shopping bag in another. My reaction probably wasn''t what he expected, it was half shock and half annoyance that someone caught me in my crummiest moment (remembering the PS thread about this very thing!)
Luckily he had an hour for me to get ready and the shopping bag was a dress my BF sent over. I got ready, but by then the weather had turn for the worst and it was POURING out. When we opened our front door there was water up to above our ankles (with my heels on) so we had to walk through the water for about 20 feet (friend ruined his shoes). They had rented a Lincoln Towncar and we drove about an hour in pouring rain, and when we got there 2 other friends were there waiting to escort me to where my BF was waiting (with a cell phone as a flashlight as it was pitch dark).
So I walked into the closed park right by the river in pouring rain, and there was my BF by the picnic table with 4 torches and hundreds of candles (all gone out of course). He sat me down with a giant umbrella, as he kept on trying to relight some of the candles while telling me stories about how much we''ve been through together, and how we had to keep on trying just like he was trying to relight those candles. Then finally some of the candles were lit and he got down on his knees on wet grass and proposed.
And I cried because it was obvious he has put so much thought into this night, had worked so hard to make it perfect, and with the rain things just didn''t go the way he planned. He was soaking wet, candles had all gone off, I was all disheveled with the wind and rain, with my feet/shoes still wet from walking out the front door of my house. Yet it couldn''t have been more perfect. Neither of us are all that romantic so all of this was quite shocking for me, and the fact that he had done all of this in the worst of conditions made it even more special.
We danced in the rain, drank a glass of my favorite wine while watching the river and listening to the sound of rain, before we headed back to meet up with his friends who spent the whole day helping him set this up. Then off we went to a rooftop lounge in the city (it was midnight by then) where we met up with some more friends, and drank and danced until the wee hours of the night (or morning).
Definitely not the way I had envisioned this day to be, nor was it how my he had planned it, but this not so perfect proposal turned out to be the most perfect day for us and something we''ll always remember
