Ok, I am getting ready to pull my trip together (appt. with Mark and Leon) but I need some advice. Where is the best place to stay? I would love to be able to walk out our hotel and be in the middle of bling! 5th Ave.? 7th Ave. Park or Madison? Upper 50''s, lower 50''s. Something tells me not to stay in Times Sq. Right? Close to the park or Rockefellow Center? OR close to the diamond district? I''m not looking to spend $500 per night, but I think $300 would be ok. Any ideas?

Ann,

If you go to Travelocity you can find rates anywhere from $200-$300 per night for the following hotels (which are in prime locations):

70 Park Avenue Hotel
Roosevelt Hotel
Hotel Roger Williams
The Time Hotel
InterContinental The Barclay
The Essex House
The Soho Grand
The Westin New York Times Square

I know the Penninsula Hotel is right within walking distance to the Diamond District. It''s right off 5th Ave. I have stayed there a couple times. It may be pricey though. Hubby paid the bill, so I''m not sure what the nightly rate is.

My wife and I were there last weekend and stayed at the Benjamin 50th and Lexington. Great little hotel and the location is excellent. Check out tripadvisor.com. We did a suite for $369.00 but it might be less now that there are summer rates. Best rooms between 9th and 15th floor 1st room to the right of the elevators. Great hotel to take your laptop to also.

Thanks everyone, what about the Omni Berkshire ?

What about The Muse ?

For visiting great jewelry stores - are they on 5th Ave. Madison?

There are so many hotels, I am really confused as to the best location.

Omni Berkshire is very nice and in a great location. Not sure about the Muse, I think it''s new. Times Square is a little crazy but there are some nice hotels like the W. You may also want to consider the Parker Meridien, Royalton, Roosevelt, Rihga Royal--so many hotels to choose from. Definitely check out one of the travel websites. I love tripadvisor.com too!

The nicest jewelry stores (Tiffany, Cartier, Harry Winston, Bulgari, etc.) are all on 5th Avenue. The Diamond District is on 47th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues. You''re going to have a great time!!
