Oh, he got me good last night.....

So we are eating at our favorite restaurant last night sitting at a booth across from each other and just about finished eating when FF says to me “I have a surprise for you!”

with this up-to-something smile he gets and he looks down and is reaching for something. Immediately like a doofus I think to myself this is it!!! OMG he’s going to propose!

While he is searching for my surprise, I literally thought he had a ring and I was smiling sooo big, my eyes even started to tear up, my heart was racing and then he gives me…….a Christmas CD that he copied for me of a band I like. LOL!

So I’m like “Ohh, thank you!” He is all smiley face and I can’t help but be a little giggly and I started crying. I felt so goofy.

He’s like “Why are you crying” and I’m like “Oh…you don’t want to know, you would think I’m crazy.” At that moment I think he knew what I was talking about and he says “Tell me..” So I tell him my initial reaction and he laughs at me as if I’m cute and silly. I told him I knew that he wouldn’t have a ring and propose like that because that just isn’t him, it isn’t us. But I couldn’t help it. It was his actions and his smile that led me to believe he actually had a ring. So of course, he tells me “Maybe I should have given it to you on one knee…” (the CD) haha!!

We both laughed but uuuuhg it sooooo felt like he had a ring…lol

It was weird. I honestly thought he had a ring. I can’t explain the feeling.

So after we leave the restaurant he mentioned the proposal we saw at a concert this past summer and how impersonal that was with everyone there to see. I told him I couldn’t picture him proposing like that in front of people and he said “Nope! It would be a more private moment.”

Needless to say, silly me with extra heart beats and tears at dinner and no ring.

But a Christmas CD to listen to at work today…lol

I had one of those moments last week too. It was my birthday so at one moment my heart skipped a beat because I thought it was coming even though I KNEW it wasn''t.

Hey Dreamgirl, sorry to hear that, I totally know how it feels, but I''m sure your proposal is coming soon.

I have a smiliar story that happened at Christmas when my DH and I had been dating for 1.5 years. About a week before Xmas, we got a Fedex slip on our door saying that they were delivering something that needed signature for delivery. When I called up to ask abuot it, they said that they had a package from Blue Nile that they were trying to deliver, but couldn''t just drop it off, because it was insured for a large amount and needed signature.

I was SURE this was my ering, since my DH had been telling me since we had been dating for 6 months that I was the one and he wanted to marry me. I had also showed him some rings that I liked on Blue Nile''s webiste However, had I told him that I wanted us to be together for at least a year, though, before we got engaged, so I figured that at 1.5 years, at either Xmas or New Year''s he would propose. I called all of my friends and told them what I thought was the good news ...

I could hardly wait until New Year''s (I thought that''s when he would do it because we were having Xmas at his parents'' house, and it wouldn''t have been our style to get engaged in front of family). So imagine my surprise when on Xmas morning he handed me a small jewelry box and said "open your present." I had a huge smile, his parents were so excited that they had tears in their eyes, and then ... I opened the box to find a gorgeous and very expensive pair of diamond and Tahitian pearl earrings

Of course I loved the earrings - they are still my favorite pair, they are absolutely gorgeous, but they were NOT what I was expecting. His parents said "what a beautiful gift" but the whole mood in the room was uncomfortable - I think that they thought he was going to propose too.

Anyway, he finally did propose in April of the next year, and after we got enagaged, his dad mentioned that he was surprised that it took him that long. He also admitted that both in-laws thought that he was proposing on Xmas with that little jewelry box, and were disappointed that he didn''t, because they loved me and wanted me to join the family. He said, "it''s a good thing our son got around to proposing, because if he didn''t, we would have just adopted you."

Anyway, the reason that I share this story is because I know that when you''re expecting a proposal, it''s easy to see it coming around every corner. Hang in there, I''m sure it''s coming very soon, and when you will be surprised!

Elle- lol we are crazy girls! The Christmas music is wonderful. Infact, I just spoke with FF on the phone and told him how great and relaxing it is!

vespergirl- Thanks for the story! I don't expect an engagement just yet. But, I obviously can't help but think it's happening when he does something like this! We both got a good laugh out of it. Infact, I was crying but it was like an excited crying. (Probably because I thought he had a ring) I mean, I was smiling and laughing the whole time but crying as well.

The suspense I tell you!!!!!!!

I think it comes with the territory of being a crazy LIW. Logically, you know better, but who listens to her head when she has her heart!

If SOMEONE (the government namely) would just hire him with a job ALREADY, he would make more money than what he is now and feel more comfortable about starting a future with me!

After he gets a better job and saves more money up, I think the countdown can really begin!

Unless he decides to go back to school for his masters.

Oh, and when he told me he should have given me the CD on one knee and we laughed- I then told him "Yes, but you really should on one knee" (insinuating a ring obviously) ha!

BTW, this is our usual playful banter back and fourth implying rings without actually saying "ring." Although, sometimes I am more blunt and just say it (to which sometimes he gets annoyed) lol
