My friend who is proposing on Friday called me right after he picked up the ring and the jeweler screwed up!!! They "ran out" of 4 prong heads and used a six prong one because they knew that he needed it this week. His girlfriend doesn''t like 6 prongs!!! He ordered the setting more than 2 weeks ago and made it very clear that it needed to be 4 and not 6 even though they tried to push the 6 on him.

I''m so upset! How do you just happen to run out of 4 prong heads? It''s not like they didn''t know they needed one for his!

So, he called me not knowing what to do because not proposing on Friday would really ruin his plan. It''ll be the first day that they''re in their new townhouse and he made reservations at a really nice restaurant so they could celebrate afterwards. He really had his heart set on this date.

The jeweler said that once they get in the 4 prong heads they could have it fixed in 2 days instead of the week or two it would normally take (seriously, though, they should do it immediately for him since it was their mistake!).

So my friend asked me if he should propose with the ring as is and let her know that it can be fixed as soon as the new head comes in or if he should just wait and do it later. I think she would really love the significance of their first day together in their new home marking their engagement date, but I know she''s really going to hate giving up the ring for a few days to have it fixed.

I think my friend is going to go ahead with the plan as scheduled. What do you think he should do?

Surely your friend will be understanding of the fact that he tried his best to make sure everything was perfect. And like you said, the ring can be fixed. She''ll only be without it for 2 days. And who knows--maybe she will like the 6 pring setting once she actually sees it on her finger. I do feel bad for that guy though--he tried so hard, and he didn''t get what he wanted. They are going to fix the ring free of charge, correct?

I believe that they will. If they don''t, I''ll call the jeweler myself and yell at them!

Yes, I would rather have that date. The ring can be fixed. It is a bummer though

Ditto... go with the 6 prong first .. who knows that she''d actually like it as it is.. if not then it can be fixed later

I''d go on with the proposal as planned. If she doesn''t want the 6 prong, do the switcheroo.

So, it turns out that there are more problems with the plan and now he''s going to have to wait until Sunday to pull it off. I''m going crazy! I''m as excited about this impending engagement as I am about my own!

Uh-oh, I assume that was the jeweler I knew of in Palmyra! Now I'm especially glad I gave my "can't vouch for the quality, maybe he should come to Philly to ring-shop" disclaimer!!

But I'm sure everything will work out... even the highly-acclaimed online vendors screw up settings from time to time... fortunately those are easily fixable errors in the grand scheme of things. But your poor friend... I'm sure he was already nervous about wanting things to be perfect!

So what went wrong with the proposal plan?? And I'm curious what restaurant he made a reservation at? The nicest place in Hershey, Brian Kent's, recently closed down (

)... I hope that's not where he was planning on taking her! Although the Circular Dining Room at the Hotel (where I'm having my wedding!) is awesome too. I think I'm overly excited about this engagement too, knowing it's taking place in my little hometown!!!

It is the jeweler that you recommended ephemery1, but my understanding is that they sent it to someone else to actually be set (this is the way my friend explained it at least) and other than this mishap, everything is perfect. They had the exact setting that his gf wanted and he got a very good deal on a stone that sounds absolutely gorgeous.

. Unfortunately the only picture I have is from his camera phone and it''s pretty much a giant blur so we''ll all have to wait until she has it on her finger to see some real pics

I''m not sure what restaurant he''s taking her to. He didn''t say since I don''t know any of them in the area. I''ll send him an email to find out though. (Can''t call since he''s with her and she''d wonder why I was calling him instead of her). I''m guessing it''s not Brian Kent''s since he just made the reservations this week.

I can''t believe I have to wait until Sunday for this to happen!

Phew... I feel a little better about my jeweler suggestion then. All I knew was that supposedly he is a really nice guy... and he did find a gorgeous marquise diamond for a pendant for my mom this past Christmas!

Hmmm... maybe he chose Al Med for the engagement dinner... another really yummy restaurant where we're actually having our rehearsal dinner! Or Alfred's... cute little Victorian place. Or somewhere in Harrisburg, there are lots of nice restaurants there. I'm anxious to hear!! I bet I can guess which townhouses they're moving into, too... this is fun!!

Woops I forgot to tell you the reason that it got messed up. It turns out she has to work all day Friday and Saturday.

ETA: He was trying to get into the Hershey Hotel, but it was too expensive,
so then it was going to be the Forebay, but now he's not sure.

YAY! THEY''RE ENGAGED! I''m trying to get her to take pictures, but they''re off celebrating right now. I don''t really have any more details than that, but I''m so excited!

Yea!!! I''m chiming in late as I didn''t get a lot of PS time during my vacation, but I''m glad it all worked out! And now it''s your turn, right? She was the one that "had to be engaged before you"???

Well good. And how did the ring situation work out? Will they switch out the prongs afterall?

Sum, you''re right, so now it''s my turn

Fancy, it turns out she might keep it with the 6! She really likes it that way, and I can''t wait to see pics!
