And why do you prefer one over the other. I'll be using a 1.01 ct round

I have to post the 2 pics separately. scroll down to see the second one.
Thanks!

Or would you rather have an X prong?

Here is the second one

Hi
35.gif

I personally like the first one. I really like how the shank tapers up to the diamond and it just looks so feminine to me.

I vote for # 2!!

For a one carat, I really prefer the first ring. OTOH, If she has larger fingers, the second might be better regardless.

She has medium size fingers. Size 7

The first one is more dainty and will emphasize the stone more, the second one is more substantial. What do you think she would prefer?

I''m not sure, I''d kind of like something in between. I''ve looked and looked and haven''t found. I know she will be happy with either one.

I like the first one. I think the danti-ness of it will be great with the stone.

I think #1 for a one carat. The band looks a little more narrow showcasing the stone.

I like the second one because I think that it is more elegant and simple. I don''t really like the tapered thing on the first one - for me it feels too fussy. If she has larger hands, the second one might look better rather than something overly dainty. I''ve tried on rings similar to both so that''s what I''m basing my opinion on as well.

Personally, I like the first one. I think it is more feminine.

I definitely like the first one better, but they are both beautiful.

So far it''s 6 votes for #1 and 2 votes for #2, and one undecided. This puts an end to my concern. #1 should arrive tomorrow! Thanks for your opinions. I know she will love it, I just needed some reassurence.

I like # 1. i like it when the band gets thinner next to the stone

Dave, you have good taste, both rings look great (although I personally prefer No 1). The first ring will make the stone ''pop'' more than the second due to the tapering. I think your girlfriend will be thrilled with what you have chosen - she is one lucky lady! Don''t forget the obligatory hand shots and proposal story. Good luck!

I like the first one, because it''s classic and feminine, and IMO, makes the diamond stand out more due to the tapered shoulders and thinner shank. I also have small hands and prefer thinner bands in general, but if your lucky lady has more average+ size hands or really long fingers, you should consider the second one.

I second this comment. I hate stuff that tapers. I definitely vote for the second one.

the first one.

The score 10 votes fore #1, 3 votes for #2

Being a "large finger girl" myself (6.75), i LOVE my thin, tapered setting. It sets off the diamond perfectly (makes it look bigger) and looks great on my hand. I used to think my finger was too big for a thin ring, but i was way wrong!

#1!!!

I was actually debating between those 2 styles for my girlfriend. I ended up going with the 2nd style. It seems more elegant to me. My girlfriend is also a size 7.

Dave-
Is it a surprise or has she been in on the process? If it is a surprise, you will have to pick it, if not a surpirse then why don''t you ask her? This way us guys can get it right the first time around!

If a surprise, maybe you could be out with her in a mall or near a jewlery store, walk by a window, make a comment to her, and see her reaction, you might get your answer. Good luck.

I like #2.

Not a fan of the taper look

I really like #2, but I also am not a fan of the tapered look.
Take a good look at the jewelry your gf wears. Is she into dainty scrolls and thin lines and bands? Does she prefer traditional over modern? Ornate over sleek simple lines?
If so, go for the taper.

I agree, the best way to decide is to figure out which one she prefers. Maybe mention that somebody at your office just got engaged, describe one of the two styles, and gauge her reaction. Chances are she has already designed her dream ring and knows exactly what it looks like. I know mine did.

Both are great, but I prefer #1 for a 1 carat

I think that they are both beautiful. I personally like the first one better because the shape of the tapered sides. I think it''s more classic and elegant. The second one looks more modern to me because the tapered sides are more structured.

I did some probing tonight while at my GF''s and now I''m sure #1 is the right choice.
thank you all for your advice and comments!

#2 because any band can fit against that.
