Ok to have a mix of antique and modern?

My E ring is an OEC and I have some stacking bands with it. My husband bought me a small emerald cut eternity ring for Christmas from ID Jewelry, but it was the wrong size, so he wanted me to exchange it for what I want. I think I’m going to do a 5 stone ring with round diamonds instead so I can get a larger look than the eternity he bought originally. This will be a stand-alone ring for my right hand. It won’t matter that they are RBC diamonds and not OECs, right? Should I be careful of going too large on the stones so not to compete with my wedding set? I don’t want to take away from my wedding set at all or clash. I know it’s probably a stupid question ha!

Not a stupid question at all. Just depends on your preferences. Whatever works for you. Some enjoy mixing modern and antique and some prefer a more matchy aesthetic. Which do you prefer?

I agree if it is for your right hand it will be less of an issue (if any at all) than if it were on the same finger with your OEC.

But again there are no rules and there is no right or wrong. It comes down to personal preference.

I definitely wouldn’t put it on the same hand as the OEC, so I think it will be fine. I don’t really know what I prefer, haha! I’ve just started my diamond journey, and I’ve never owned anything except older cuts. I don’t think I’ll mind having a mix, but I was just worried and didn’t want the right hand to take away from the left.

I appreciate this thread so much @Honeybasil - the dilemma lol. I am getting an omc ering upgrade, but my family gave me some mrb that I made into a 7 stone band. I haven't got either of the rings yet but I was definitely leaning towards having one as a rhr. Also one is yellow gold and one is white gold so I guess one could say that I'm not a very matchy match person. I think you'll get a sense when you wear it if it'll complement each other otherwise wear them on different hands :)

Lol p.s. edited to add that, because I was so worried about this, I bought a little parcel of 7 baby omc that maybe I'll make into a band instead. It's great to have options hehe.

Once you start down this rabbit hole, you can’t stop, right?? Never too many options. I would do an OEC band but since my hubby already spent the money at ID jewelry, I feel like I need to go with that for now.

I don't think you can go wrong. If you can appreciate the differences and love them both the same. I guess it depends how big you're going to go with the 5 stone as well. It can be quite blingy compared to your wedding set - but hey if you can appreciate both then I'd say go for it :) you'll be mesmerised looking down at both hands all the time haha really it's for you to enjoy so whatever you're happy with is the most important.

I’m thinking 1.5-2 carats (.30-.40 each) size 7 finger. Not sure which would be better...
