I totally did NOT think this was going to happen.

But tomorrow I send my ring off to Neil for the appraisal and unmounting of my stone so that he can completely evaluate it. Then it gets sent to Ocean from there.

And... I''m having SEVERE separation anxiety! I''ve worn this ring for four years. And all of the sudden I''m afraid of the change. I''m really feeling.. well, naked at the thought of being without it for weeks.

All of which is silly... but I know many of you have gone through the same thing with Upgrades and resets... so can you help me get over this.

Right now... I don''t want to give up my ring. I just want the new one to magically appear on my finger.

Crazy, but true.

Cehra, is that you?

J/K. But here is a similar thread from her, and my response to her is the same I''d say to you. Just will yourself to do it. I have faith.

Gypsy, think of it like sending your kid off to college. Sure, it''s tough, but before you know it you''ll be able to say you have a doctor in the family!
26.gif

The sooner it''s gone...the sooner you get it back!

I''d use the time to give some ''air time'' to a ring that has been sitting in your jewelry box!!

Okay. LMAO @ TG. Did you see my post to her under yours?

Hest... okay. So my ring is gonna come back a doctor. I like that analogy.

FG... that''s a good idea. Gonna have to hit the jewelry box and see what pops up as a replacement type ring.

Deep Breath.

I''m gonna have to figure out how to package it today. USPS registered mail. Insured. Yikes!

hi gypsy,

i just happened to see your post here and wanted to wish you courage and luck! i just went through the same thing and felt just as you do .... naked and scared!
1.gif
BUT i can offer some reassurance as all went well. my precious traveled safely and the time did pass quickly. i sent it the same way you are sending yours (USPS registered and insured) and it got to its destination in a few days. it was sent back fedex priority overnight noninsured and again, made it home safely. AND i fell in love with it all over again - it was even more beautiful than the day i got it. the change was well worth the anxiety and the wait. all things i''m sure you already know but sounds like you could use a little ''chin up''. don''t forget, as hard as it is to look at a bare finger after four years (or in my case, seven), the thrill of getting it back better than before is tenfold!

best of luck, hope it goes by quickly!

(it''s Ladykenna''s old trick, right?? Put it away for a few days (weeks, whatever!) and voila!)

I had to part with Ol'' Stabby to get the re-decorated Sparkly 2.0 ... and, yeah it suxxxx, and no I didn''t have a wedding band or a replacement ring to tide me over ... and yeah I had to meet lots of peeps & do biz trips w/o a ring but I SURVIVED! And the ring turned out better than I imagined ... and YOU WILL SURVIVE and your ring will be EVEN MORE BEAUTIFUL!!!

(ps--love the taper idea, love the single cuts, love all yr. ideas & can''t wait for you to see your masterpiece!! the only thing I''d do differently if it were MY RING is I prefer a delicate bezel setting & streamlined side profile -- rather than the double claw prongs & slight raised profile of the stone ... but both styles are beautiful in their own right ... and your vision sounds just right for you!!!!

Thank you everyone!!! It's on it's way to the post office now, you wouldn't BELIEVE how I packaged it. I miss it, but I have my watch to keep it company. I'm thinking of using the baguette eternity band FMIL gave me as a stand in... but it's a wedding band and we're not married... so I don't know how I feel about that. Most of my other rings are too big for this finger as they are RHR.

Deco: It's actually a single talon prong design (I decided the Leon was right about double claw prongs on a stone with the tiny corners mine has)... and I like the prong set because of the light return it allows the step cut stone. And I figure that since the halo is octagonal, it's okay if the prongs aren't fully engaged in the corner enhancing mojo. Plus I thought the design would look too busy with the double claw.

The only part of the design that isn't fully decided is the underwires, and Ocean and I will be discussing that this week or next to finalize.

Right now, I'm hoping that it gets to Neil's safely, and I'm excited to get all the cool information about my stone (Sarin, ASET and some magified pics of my stone).

Yay, I love your new coach watch!!!!! I sent my stone to be set and I remember when it came back it looked huge so Deco is right. hehehe I am so excited for ya!!! What a nice B day pressy!!!

You know those moments when you and your SO are well, similarly insane and it just hits you how perfect you are together?

Well. SO, I packed the ring as follows:

Put it in it's original ring box. But ring box in a tube that contained european soaps. Removed all soaps put into a different soap box. Stuffed cylinder with paper towels. Put one soap on top of container so that if someone opens it, it looks like a box of soap. Put soap box in another box filled wtih crumpled newspaper. This is a large box, to fool people.

So that's my packing insanity.

Then we hand off the ring to John to take the post office today.

I tell him to ship it registered mail.
He calls me four times at the post office panicked. First time, did you say registed or certified. Registered. Just first class? Whatever makes sense and is cost effective... but registered. Second time, THEY ONLY INSURE TO 5K!! What do I DO! the ring is insured, just mail it. Get the 5K it makes you happy. Third time, Express Mail overnight guarantees delivery do you want that or registed mail? The appraiser said registered. I don't know how safe express is, plus isn't the expensive? Fourth call. I mailed it Express Overnight, and got the insurance. Plus I got a couple of other things. Do I want to know what this cost? Um... No.

I Love Him. We're both so similarly nutso.

ETA: Thanks Skippy I love my watch too, and I'm TOTALLY looking forward to my diamond coming back BIGGER (looking)! YAY.

LOL at your FI! That''s sweet of him to send it off for you and to make sure he sent it out correctly.

I love what deco said - Absence makes the heart grow fonder ... and the diamond grow BIGGER! That''s very true!

Just keep looking forward to the positives...Sarin, ASET, magnified pics of your stone, and your ring coming back bigger and better than ever!
36.gif
Before you know it it''ll be back on your finger!

Hahaha-I love your shipping skills. You are ridiculously sneaky! Have you considered drug smuggling as a sideline? Hahaha!

I had to send my e-ring back for resizing like 5 days after I got it. Boy did that SUCK. I managed to somehow power through. And by power through, I mean whined about it to anyone who asked me where my ring was.
9.gif

Just think about how your ring is going to come back looking soooooooo huge! Especially since you''re halo-ing that bad boy! I seriously can''t wait to see the finished product. It''s going to be sick!

Snlee... after the second call everytime his cell number would flash on the caller ID I giggled. The calls were only 5 minutes apart. He is a sweetie. I will definitely look forward to the positives.

Thing-- SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! You''ll let my secret out!!

Seriously though, that sucks about the resizing FIVE days after, I''m actually having issues with sizing myself. Gonna go to another store today and get sized AGAIN to avoid your stress. It is going to look lovely. And hopefully bigger and more octagonal!

Thank you Ellen! Me TOO!

Gypsy, just so other people aren''t confused, diamonds worth over $5000 should be sent USPS Registered Mail which has the option of insurance up to $25,000. It is the safest way to send valuables because the package is under lock and key the entire time it is in transit. I''m sure your ring will be fine, but somehow John really got confused about the mailing details. This is a good illustration of why I do things that are important to me myself! Men just sometimes do not follow instructions!

Gypsy,
I understand how you''re feeling. I felt bare at first, but am used to being without my ring now.

Gypsy,
So glad the ring is on it''s way. When I got my asscher back from being set, it looked huge. I joked and said you must have given it some vitamins!! I know it''s a RHR, but still. It''s soooo worth the wait and we will all be waiting along with you!! I for one, am super excited to see it in all it''s glory!!! John is such a cutie, love how he called you from the post office, sounds like my hubby.

Yeah. See that's why Neil suggested Registered. It's going to be fine. It is really. I'm not going to bite my nails now until it gets there... really.

I'm sure it will be fine. Yes, men don't follow instructions, and mine is no exception (we won't go into what happened when I delegated finding a cross country moving company to him and all the packing to him) but hopefully no harm will come of it, and we've learned our lesson for next time.

Next time, Layla will take the package to the post office on her lunch break or on Saturday.

Kaliegh, I love your asscher, and it IS huge for it's weight... plus the Daniel K inspired setting does wonderful things for it. I'm excited too. Probably too excited. John is cute, doesn't always follow directions, but is cute nonetheless. LOL.

Okay. We''ve got to get a GTG going in NY so that someone can take a look at Harriets camera, see if it''s hopeless and recommend her to get a new camera... and so that someone else can take pics of her bling. Clearly we need to help our Harriet.
4.gif

Haha! I don''t think the camera is hopeless, just me.

LOL. Then maybe they can a) take the pics for us b) show you how to take better ones.
