All opinions, even critical ones welcome in regards to the center diamond.

Pre-loved ring from Ebay, no returns. The seller seems very nice. The stats for center diamond are OMC U/V color, VS clarity, dimensions 7.26x 7.10x 5 mm carat weight estimated to be 1.6 carats. The setting is a genuine Traub orange blossom with .28 carats (.14 each) diamonds. Price was under 4k. The seller listed all the diamonds as VS. The authenticator did not pass the ring. The explanation is "minor issue", side diamonds are 2 grades lower than the VS listing, and I am given the opportunity to cancel the transaction and get a refund. So I thought this would be a good time to get everyone's opinion.

I bought it because I wanted a genuine OMC and I love that the color is so warm, it's wonky and the diamond size is very wearable for me.

Do you see any issues with the center diamond? Wonky is nice, but I still want it to look beautiful and I am second guessing myself now.

Thank you!

I really like it. I do think it's probably closer to 2ct to be honest. This diamond is deep! You can see how tall the crown is. I think it really depends on what your expectation is. It looks really pretty from the photos and it's pretty white facing for a UV. I also would make concessions for old cut diamonds in antique settings as well.

Do you have any videos of the ring?

I'm no expert but I love it. And the price seems great for the size and setting.

Thank you very much for your opinion. :) I don't have a video. I did get a lot more pictures from the seller who seems very nice.

I like the cut. These babies were cut ~1860 so oooold. It shows some obstruction in the close ups but nothing terrible. The hand shots show how nice it looks in normal viewing distance. I think with those measurements the carat estimate is probably correct. 7-7.2 in an MRB would be 1.25 so I think the 1.6 estimate is about right. Reminds me of the OMC @lala646 recently had graded with similar measurements that came back over 1.5.

The setting is in pretty bad shape though. The engraving is very worn. And it’s not contemporary with the diamond, which isn’t a big deal but worth noting. Also the diamond looks much too large for the setting. That is my concern: that the diamond is not truly secure in the setting. It has nice big prongs, but in the profile pictures I think you can reallly see exactly how much the diamond just dominates the setting and overhangs. I’m not sure much of the value is in the setting other than the side stones which are worth maybe $75 a pop. Of course buying a new setting is an arm and a leg these days.

I am cautious about the no returns. Can you ask the seller to consider returns given that it failed authentication?

I love it. The only thing that looks weird to me is the prongs - it looks like there are two tab prongs but more in the 12 and 6 o'clock position? That looks a bit odd and like Dreamer said it might be because they aren't holding the stone in well.

I am guessing this might be an individual selling their stuff unlike a dealer, so that is probably why no returns (similar to when we sell on ebay or preloved).

So I guess it would amount to what work you might need to put in for a repair.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions and input. :) I agree the setting is not ideal for the diamond and the diamond would need a new dress. Glad that so far no one sees any major issues with the center diamond.

I would ask the seller for better, clearer images of the center, but I rather like it. I will say the color is not my particular cup of tea, but the cut seems to be charming. I love the tiny table and fluffy crown. Any chance they will discount the price a bit given the authentication issue? Sub 4K seems a fair price, but not a screaming deal, particularly if you may need to find a new setting.

I believe it is a very nice stone!

I like it. I saw that listing and looked, but am not in the market. Sounds like you don't mind resetting. That's probably what I would do given @Dreamer_D's comments on the prongs and it probably not being original anyway.

Yes if you are planning a reset the price is likely fair but not a wild deal. Still, even those of us who spend far too much time on ebay etc rarely see OMCs come up. They are uncommon.

I am curious about how the color will look in person. It seems to have tones of yellow and also maybe some olive green and brown. These are common body colors in these more-tinted stones. If you embrace it, it could be interesting. Especially set in a rich gold!

Thanks again lovely forum members. I accepted the ring!!!!

I am very relieved that no one saw any issues with the center diamond. The authenticator did not deem the diamond to have brown or grey tones. So hopefully a lovely yellowish color.

It's been a truly rough 25 days since I blew out my knee. You know you do everything right and then something really unexpected, really bad happens. You just sometimes need a little sunshine to make things better. :)

 I wanted that ring, so badly!
Alas, I have kids in school and every penny goes to them.
You're very lucky, that is my favorite style of cut, proportion and color is perfection.
Officially jealous.

I’m glad you are getting this ring/stone! Any ideas on how you want to set it?
I’m so sorry about your knee. I am almost 5 weeks post ACL/meniscus surgery and still have one more week of crutches as I cannot put any weight on my leg-so annoying. I hope you have a quick recovery and I’m glad you have a new stone/project to give you something to look forward to! Knee issues are no fun. Post pictures once you receive your ring!!

I’m so sorry about your knew Lisa!! I hope love your new ring!

Thanks everyone for joining me on this little journey.

She arrived today and I don’t know what to think. No chips but I do see what looks like a small natural on the girdle under my 30x loupe. She measures 7.38 x 7.24 with my digital caliper. I checked the accuracy of the caliper by measuring my OEC diamond first. I didn’t want to risk scratching the table by trying to measure the depth.

The setting is thin and slightly out of round so she will need a new dress.

I was expecting warm. She looks pretty white. I could not recreate that warmth I saw in one of the seller’s pics under indoor or outdoor lighting. I put her under a sunbeam too.

I like her and don’t want to sound spoiled, but I was hoping for a different flavor that would set this diamond apart from my other ones.

Some pics where she is between a J and N colored diamond. The band has G colored diamonds.
